I built mine out of crane that mounts to the deck of a small pick up truck. I have a engine crane similar to the ones sold by HF in the US. Thats a far better use for them ,i find they wriggle too much when lifting the types of engines i rebuild.. and i reckon they are pretty unstable. I prefer to use the same old thing I've had for years.

Well, 2 things. You need a spotter. You can make your own. 2 car batteries in parallel (total amps 1150-1200 amps). My friend has a video on how to make a spotter. He beat me to it. The other thing. Check out Sprex Japan's Prullax. Or Stanzani art 770. For another way to connect it to the car for pulling out dents....Thanks for the video.....Thumbs up!!!!!!!!!

frogmanvc I finally pulled the trigger on one and bought it off of ebay. They save so much time I couldn’t stand my stud welder any more. It was only 370 so I figured between buying two batteries then the gun I was better off just buying 1. Couldn’t be happier with it.

@ColdWarVet6076 жыл бұрын
Very cool thinking, but since you replaced the HF piston and cut up the rails and re welded brackets, why not just get a few pieces of metal stock from Industrial Supply shop and build it the way you really wanted, seems this way you paid a very high price for a few pcs of tubing. Not a flame brother, just wondering what I'm missing here
@GLeszega6 жыл бұрын
Ever Forward your absolutely right. I was looking for a metal supply place for a couple months before I built this but I couldn’t find anything local. I was able to get the shop crane at a large discount since it was returned that is why I decided to take this route.
@ColdWarVet6076 жыл бұрын
A day after I wrote my comment that thought came to mind when I saw a discounted 1 ton crane at my HF cause it was missing one of the legs and casters. To bad you dont have a local steel supply with all those great ideas and welding talent you have have. Theresa huge steel supply yard in the town next to me, everything from 1 x 1/8 stripsto 8x8 square tubing, thin & thick metal sheeting, if I had your welding talent Id build me a tank or at least a proper engine hoist. Expensive though to buy and shipping cost impossible. So hers to the "Mad Mechanic" in you!
@vqfive6 жыл бұрын
So you can't do any downward pulls with it
@ryanwolfe9116 жыл бұрын
You could if you welded a pulley towards the bottom end.
@GLeszega5 жыл бұрын
vqfive my setup for pulling down is soooo ghetto lol I wasn’t going to mention it. I have a pulley with a bolt through it that I put a chain around the bottom rail and route the chain through it. It’s not pretty but it’s worked 3 separate times for me when I had to pull down. Most of the time when you have to adjust something down a 2x4 and sledge do the trick.

GLeszega Hi do you have any update on this machine? I’ve been thinking about building something similar using an engine hoist
@gabrielsolis976 жыл бұрын
What size tubes did you use?
@GLeszega5 жыл бұрын
Gabriel Solis it was from a 2 ton harbor freight shop crane. I think it’s 2.5” or 3” but I will have to measure it to be sure. The square tubing isn’t very thick so I haven’t pushed my luck and try to pull anything real heavy

This is a copy of the "Damage Dozer" we used to use in the 70's. Only this is about 1/3 the size and one third of the power. And the reason the Damage Dozer became obsolete is because most cars went with uni-body construction (body and frame are all sheet metal and integrated , instead of a steel frame which is separate and the body bolts on to it.) When you have a uni-body construction , the force of any collision impact is dispersed throughout the body. This means that to get the collision damage out you need to anchor the entire car on a rack and use multiple pull points to straighten it out. This little puller is practically useless because you can't anchor it to anything...you need a way to install floor pots and a way to prevent the car from moving while you pull. It's because businesses can sell junk like this to people who don't know anything and have no skills that the auto body trade is being de- valued and is dying out.
