I think the hoses are connected backwards on the dust collector. Dust should come in from the side, and cleaner air should leave the collector from the top towards the shop vac.

You're right, they were. I swapped it later on. Unfortunately the grinding disc lifts the polisher so high that the shroud is high above the floor and doesn't make a noticeable difference. Good eye though!

Thanks for the video! If my house is a new build and nothing has ever been in the garage, would I still need to grind it first?
@doingityourself13363 жыл бұрын
As far as I know, coatings still need a rough surface to adhere properly. Etching would be an alternative in your case due to the new concrete. If you want the aggregate to show like on my floor you'd need to grind.

Did you grind the vertical surfaces as well?
@doingityourself13363 жыл бұрын
Yes, I used a diamond grinding cup on a grinder to prep them. Just one coat of polyurea though as they're not a high wear surface. Thanks for watching!

How well does that bound to the concrete? It kind of looks old again. It looks like old concrete with a sealer on it.

What product did u use? That's a better price for 5 gallons than the ones I have seen.
@doingityourself13363 жыл бұрын
Standard polyurea from garageflooringllc.com. Thanks for watching!

Nice. Is that the same as a Polyaspartic coating?
@doingityourself13363 жыл бұрын
Thanks, to my knowledge they're similar but not the same.

Haha that's so much dust! That's exactly what it looks like if I use my leaf blower to clean out the garage. It never stops, my floor is hammered from salt.

Just wanted to say thank you very much for putting this together. Am weighing the option of doing this in my garage, too. Just thought of a quick question for you ... I noticed that Home Depot rents floor polishers and diamabrush discs. In the HD rental description for the diamabrush disc, it mentions "always use diamabrush coating removal disc 7" with water". It doesn't look like you have a water-capable grinder in the video. Are you using a different size disc that doesn't require water, perhaps? Also, any recommendations for an affordable and effective degreaser (lots of oil stains on my garage floor, too)? Thanks!
@doingityourself13363 жыл бұрын
You're welcome! If I remember correctly, the 7" disc is for a grinder and is for small areas. You definitely want the full size disc made for the floor polisher. Also, you can use them with water but it's not necessary from my understanding. Water will keep it cooler and make it last longer so they're probably just trying to make more money from each disc before it wears out. I personally think cleanup is easier if you do it dry. Oil stain removers work horribly on old stains. I tried at least 10 different ones, wet, dry, homemade etc. I'd recommend just using a reputable brand and wash it a couple of times, scrub it in and rinse really well. I still had heavy stains before grinding, but the grinding process got rid of them.

Oven cleaner works with oil stains. Spray a liberal amount of oven cleaner on the stain. Let it dwell for 10 minutes. Scrub the area with a stiff bristle brush. Rinse the area. Reapply, dwell, scrub, rinse until satisfied with results.

how many square feet is this garage and how many gallons or quarts did you use?
@doingityourself13363 жыл бұрын
Hi, it's about 400sqf. I'm not sure offhand, but I think I put the amount I used in the video. Thanks for watching!

Hey Doing it Yourself I have a question. Is that machine a regular scrubbing machine with diamond grinding blade put on it and if so where can I get those blades put on my floor machine?

Jesus, dude use your hose to wet the floor and and WET grind the floor now you got concrete dust on everything, this is so unprofessional it’s ridiculous. Spray most of the cement mud out and shopvac the rest up.
