DIY gentle Deodorant Cream with Zinc Oxide | NO BAKING SODA

DIY cream deodorant with Zinc Oxide is a great alternative if you are looking for something gentle for our underarms WITHOUT baking soda or coconut oil.
RECIPE:
3g (0.1 Oz) sweet almond oil (amzn.to/3Lkf5HH)
15g (0.5 Oz) shea butter ( amzn.to/3DgN1lE)
9g (0.3 Oz)of cornstarch (amzn.to/3NqL6zK)
1.8g (0.06 Oz) of non-nano zinc oxide (amzn.to/3qC9lkP)
1.2g (0.04 Oz) of Beeswax (amzn.to/3DeusyJ)

Great formulation and outcome..I am a certified cosmetic formulator so I would just alter one thing: I would not melt the butter and oils in the microwave as it destroys their composition. I would melt it in a Bain Marie instead. Also add powders a little at time and stir. Other than that it looks gorgeous thank you for sharing!

When using this deodorant and sweating as some of us inevitably do...does this stain the armpits of clothes? Many of my homemade deodorants have done this, but i haven't tried this recipe and wanted to double check.

Yes I have experienced that too with deodorant that have coconut oil either balm or stick/solid based. I even tried known brands they all do that. So I did a shea based body butter and I applied that. But now I will introduce powders to that formula like the above Zinc oxide, or clay, it seems a great idea!

What is the expiry date of this product and Under what conditions should it be stored?

Hello! Unfortunately, with DIY products, it is difficult to set an exact date. It can vary a lot depending on the ingredients you use. If these are freshly bought, the product will generally last longer than a product created with "old" ingredients or deteriorated by poor storage. Unfortunately, it depends on many factors. My advice is to store it in a dry place and always check its condition. If over time you notice that there are changes in odor or color, better not to use it. :)

Yes it is generally because of this. Consider that being in an oil-based product it doesn't dissolve and when we go to spread it on the skin it will remain in its granular form. Underarm movement will lead to repeated rubbing of the skin and consequently potential abrasion. For some this is irritating for others it is not. In my experience, I happened to use it and had no unpleasant effects. Only unsightly white areas were created. These were deposits of coconut oil and baking soda. :)

If we don't add baking soda, will there be a smell of sweat?

I don't know, but 5-10 drops of tea tree oil will prevent that. It is antifungal and antibacterial, and will halp prevent odor. Considering this recipe makes only 30g, I'd say you probably won't want to use more than 5 drops. (Tea tree oil is strong! I also add lavender oil.)

Zinc oxide is antibacterial and antifungal fungal so it should prevent sweat smells. The BO comes from the bacteria oxidizing with the water and air. So as long as you're killing the bacteria you should be fine

What is the shelf life of this deodorant?

Hi. Defining an accurate shelf life for a homemade product is difficult. Since it is not easy to perform laboratory tests on small quantities like these, it is not possible to be precise and give a clear shelf life to the product. We have to be careful about any changes in color or smell that the product might show after some time. From my experience, I have noticed that oil-based products, such as this deo, keep well up to 6 months. After that, I recommend checking their condition (texture and smell) before applying them to be on the safe side. :)
