It is most often simply called hard board. If you want to get fancy, you can call it high-density fiberboard.

I’m well thank you ! I would be happy to help ☺️ I totally understand feeling lost with Waldorf . I felt the same when starting out . For me I needed it really broken down in chunks in order to completely grasp it. I found Waldorf essentials by Melissa Nielsen to be extremely helpful. It is a curriculum but in each grade she breaks down and explains a bit of Rudolf Steiners ( founder of Waldorf ) teachings for that age and grade so you learn about the philosophy in bite size pieces . I ended up purchasing her thinking feeing willing program because it has mom lessons and teaches you how to educate your children in Waldorf step by step and includes lots of extras like planning , live ( and recorded) master classes on various subjects , office hours where you can just go on and have real time discussions and ask questions and an online community . I found it a perfect fit for me . I have a link for that, if you would like it just let me know 😊 Now if that’s not what your looking for and you really want to understand the whys behind everything then you should start by digging your teeth into some good lectures by Steiner . “Kingdom of childhood “ is a good one to start with . There are a lot of his lectures read in audio book style here on youtube , I believe the channel is rudolf Steiner radio . A couple other books I enjoyed and found helpful are “ beyond the rainbow bridge “ great if you have kids 0-7 and “ school and a journey “ by Torin m. Finser , it’s a Waldorf teachers journey with kids from 1-8th grade . Other than those books I really have just used the waldorf essentials program and listened to Steiners lectures . I have a video reviewing the Waldorf essentials curriculum that explains how it works a little bit , it’s currently trying to upload , so once that’s up it might be of use to you. I will record a starter guide as well to all things Waldorf because after your question I searched KZbin and I can’t find much on that . So keep an eye out for that. Overall I found the Waldorf essentials to be the most helpful . What ages are your kiddos ? I have some extra copies I am selling pretty cheap if you would be interested. I know how head spinning it can be when trying to sort through all of everything so if you have any specific questions please don’t hesitate to ask , I will try tor help the best I can 😊

@@Allisontheseagull17 - Had never heard of Waldorf. Really, really interesting. I don't have kids. But, am a grand uncle to a 2-year-old that looks to be on the gifted side. May have to have the parents give it a look. I see we have a couple of schools available in our area.

I ended up with scratches when we cured it with chalk. Is that normal?

What do you suggest using to clean the chalk after every use? I get from your advice that if we use any liquid, we will have to prep the board with chalk allover again, which I don't want to use. Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks in advance!

You understood correctly. Don’t use liquid because it takes off that nice layer of chalk dust , which you want to prevent ghosting . I just use a rag . A normal chalk board eraser works well too , or a sleeve 😂 🙈 . It’s not going to hurt it too much if you need to use a barley damp rag and lightly wipe ( not scrub !) it. That should still leave the chalkiness in the tiny pores enough to prevent ghosting . I wouldn’t use that too often though . To further Help me understand your question , do you plan to use chalk or something else for l writing ?

Waoaw, beautiful job! I’m trying to build one myself, however I’m struggling with the hanging part since the board is so heavy and I’m afraid it’s gonna fall off. Any advise?

So We actually just screwed through the trim board pieces into the wall . As long as you are putting the screws into a stud it should hold for ya . I think we did three across the bottom and top and two on each side .

When I hung a whiteboard (made from a cheap, white "bathroom panel") like this, I just screwed the panel directly to the wall, around the edges, then just tacked the trim in place to hide the screws and cover the edge. If you are struggling to deal with the weight, you can just lift up one end and screw in one corner, just enough to hold it in place. Then, you can easily lift the other end while holding a level across the top and screw in the other corner. Double check for level, then toss in some more screws around the edge. Only some of the screws need to be in the stud.
