DIY Grand Auditorium vs Taylor 814CE

Just a quick comparison between my Aliexpress Grand Auditorium (mahogany) and my 2016 Taylor 814CE (rosewood). The latter is the X brace model.
After listening back, I was surprised I preferred the guitar I built. The Taylor sounded too bright and the mids were too scooped. The mahogany has the warm, dry sound which I love more.
That being said, the Taylor 814CE is a great guitar but it costs more than 10 times the price of this guitar kit.

Simon I would love to here you talk about the differences between the two and whether you think the guitar you built sounds as good all the way up the fret board. Amazing job. How hard was it to set the neck correctly. That is one of the many fears I have about building my own guitar. Thanks for posting.

I would say the Taylor 814ce is much brighter and more articulate, could be because it's rosewood. Their bracing is also much thinner but I feel that my build also resonates very well. The neck on my build is slightly fatter, more like a C shape profile. Overall I was very happy with the sound. I've not compared it to a Taylor 314ce (mahogany GA) so I wouldn't know how similar it would be. Setting the neck was pretty tough, but I went for a bolt on so I managed to set and adjust everything before gluing the fretboard extension. I won't be able to guide you through the neck but there are many more qualified people on KZbin. That being said if I can do it, I'm sure you can too.
