Lol, I couldn't picture in my head how the bottom thread gets looped either, so i googled it. Several good video animations that show how it's done. I just like understanding how stuff works.

I came up with a similar idea using my old jungle issue sleeping bag but the idea was lacking something. Then I came across your vid and realised that is was your baffle principle that I lacked. I plan on splitting my bag into apart into its inner and outer, cutting it to the required size and installing baffles like you did. Fingers crossed it'll work. Many thanks guys. All the best from the UK.

Good luck Karlos. We originally were going to try and use old sleeping bags but wanted to go all the way with it and make our own from scratch. Enjoy the baffling ha

Helpful Tip : 1.9 Oz Ripstop and the outdoor nylon thread both want to get stuck on and in the needle hole of the base plate of the sewing machine . . Up the thread tensions up and put a piece of masking tape over most of the base plate hole without covering the bobbin thread coming out and the feeder feet. On the starting locking stitch - pull on both needle and bobbin threads slightly to help the feed get the lock passed the danger spot.

Awesome job. Thanks for sharing. I bought mine, I didn't have the balls to try sewing. I have zero patience.

In case anyone is reading this and using this as a guide: Just some friendly advice that before you start sewing do about 10 minutes of research about bobbin tension. My top thread looked great on my tarp project and when I turned it over, my bottom thread was junk. Your quilts look great! Checking your bottom thread tension can really clean up your seams no matter how much sewing experience you have. Thanks for the vid guys.

+Joey Hudack Totally agree...i would recommend doing some practice sewing if you're new to a sewing machine. This project could have been done a lot quicker had we not had to mess with thread tensions and actually known what we were doing!

great video guys nice quilts. its a shame you couldnt get any more down to put in ther instead of the synthetic stuff it would have saved you some weight. great job
@stetz59 жыл бұрын
+Tim Robson It actually turned out that we probably didn't even need to put the synthetic in. After testing it out a few more times, Drew came to the conclusion that he could have probably done without it. He's been a little too warm some trips. I didn't have that much in so it wasn't a huge problem for me but they're def worth their weight in...down? haha
@TimRobson309 жыл бұрын
+Ryan Stetz cool man thats good to know i have thaugbt about using synthetic but i just got a few kg of down for free so i have plenty. i am just embarking on the mamoth task of producing underquilts for sale in the uk because there is only one company over here i have found that make proper down underquilts. your video realy helped me work out the way to stitch the baffles on thank you. ps your video was realy funny to

Ontario Backwoods Outfitters Remember, the underquilt doesn't support any of your weight, so that shouldn't be an issue.
