You need to put score lines on parts you want to stick together, clay doesn’t want to stick to smooth surfaces. It also helps to make a slightly watered down clay mix to fill gaps and basically use as “glue” to join things. It’s quite easy if you know how but brain-meltingly agonising if you don’t. Amazing problem solving tho! And they turned out incredible!!!

Awesome thank you for the tip. I will try to use it when i make a new clay project ♥
@MagycArwen4 жыл бұрын
I've tried mixing the clay with water to make details stick and it's incredibly difficult if you're working with a fluffy clay such as das. It just sticks together in lumps 😢 working with pottery clay is so much easier.
@acmulhern4 жыл бұрын
This works very well with regular clay, but not so much with air dry clay. I think they put paper and plastic in it so it makes it difficult to work with.
@DH-gq7bm3 жыл бұрын
@@MagycArwen I just use PVC glue. I bought some bottles of Aleen's tacky glue, and I apply them to the wet pieces of clay I want to attach then smooth the seams. Seems to work just fine for me. And I use das too, so I understand what you mean

For the your original plan on making the body of the trinket box, when I took ceramics my ceramics professor said to cut the smaller sides of the rectangle in a 45 degree angle so the sides kinda overlap each other when you bring them together. I’ve seen others comment this already, but to get pieces of clay to stick together, it’s easier to score the area you want the piece to go onto (and the piece itself) with something sharp, and then add slip to it. “Slip” is just a mixture of water and used crushed up clay. It acts as glue.

Thank you! With air dry clay you do need for it to harden before you can paint it. It usually takes around 24 to 48 hours depending on how large your piece is. You can use acrylic paint to paint it if you don't plan to use any varnish or gouache like i do in the video but in that case you do need to varnish it with a special varnish for water based paintd
