You should not use petroleum products on rubber parts.

joe pro that’s correct, should always use silicon based grease on real rubber parts, thanks for bringing that to thought! While Vaseline and other petroleum products may degrade real rubber (actually made from the rubber tree), current o-rings and bushing technology does not use natural rubber. They are made of Polyurethane (urathane) ... With this in mind, you should have no worries about whether to utilize Vaseline on any of the bushings.Also if an bushing is made from, nitrile, for example (a material used in car fuel and oil lines) then there is no problem using petroleum grease to lubricate the bushing as this current technology is resistant. Cheers!

Video Great and clear instructions that even a complete noobie like me was able to complete it! ( I had some reservations, but this video helped). The bushings in the upper half of my rear shocks were GONE, knocking sounds going over every little bump! I was able to change the rear shocks on my '04 Sahara. Slight moment of panic when I clipped the tie off the shock and it started coming down at my face (rather quickly) but was able to maneuver it into place in time! Riding smooth now! Thanks a million!😃

No problem and those shocks you have are called twintube , they will work but completely different than the shocks I run on my tj. I use monotube, so you don’t have to clip off ties on those. Thanks for watching 🍻

Good video and good advice on using penetrant on the fasteners prior to removal. However, you should NEVER, EVER use anti-seize or oil on wheel lug nuts / bolts. If they are rusty, clean them with a wire brush, but leave them dry. If you lube lug bolts / nuts, you change the co-efficient of friction resulting in more force per indicated torque. The torque wrench may indicate 85 ft lbs, but the actual torque may be 95 ft lbs. This causes the bolt to stretch resulting in premature failure. Thanks!

Thats a Wrong! Nothing wrong with anti-seize on lug bolts. Come up North with some salt. C5A and torque to spec.b

Did the new shocks make a difference in the ride comfort and control? I think my shocks might be stock, from 1999, and it has a 3 inch lift. Been driving it like that for 6 years and it rides as rough as a really old farm tractor 🥴

Good shocks definitely help out with ride quality but good coils will too! Especially if you have something better than single rate coils like dual or triple rate! Also if your going offroad try disconnecting the front sway bar end link. This will make the front axle live and wake up the suspension for way better ride quality offroad! *Chock, not chalk. But thanks for making the vid. Also, since you're espousing good shop practice (which is a very good thing), there are a couple of other things worth pointing out 1.) Torque specs for lug nuts is for dry torque. Using any kind of lubricant at all (including leaving WD-40 on the threads) will change the torque value relative to what your torque wrench reads. This can and often does lead to one of two problems: under-torqued nuts that come off while driving, or over-torqued nuts that stretch the threads. No manufacturer has ever recommended using anti-seize on wheel studs. 2.) Good shop practice also includes wearing gloves at all times when working with anti-seize. That stuff is very toxic and can cause severe skin rashes/chemical burns, but it can blind you permanently if you rub your eye and get some in there. It's also extremely hazardous to aquatic life so be sure to do what you can to minimize how much goes into sewage or run-off (such as wearing gloves so you don't have to wash any down the drain). Otherwise, the video was accurate and informative. The advice to soak bolts and studs in WD-40 and especially the warning about the rear shock upper mounts being welded inside the frame is crucial info and it's great you called that out.

Thanks for the comments on my addition to the lug nuts as you are correct about torque values. I actually stopped showing the ample use of this product in my videos as some do not understand how it works in conjunction with torque specs. There are several good videos and technical engineering data on how to properly apply a light coat of anti seize to wheels studs. (Essentially reducing torque)With this being said I don’t advocate it at all. The factory and I have two very different goals: The factory doesn’t want the wheels to come off. I want my wheels to come off. BTW just one data point: I’ve been putting on anti-seize for 15 yrs now and never found a loose lug nut. On and off road constantly changing and swapping wheels from one jeep to another

I ordered the correct shocks for my Jeep, however the bottom bushings are too wide to slip into the bracket. Should I hit on them to force it in ? ?

Sometimes when the bolts are tightened the bracket flexes inward and can be bent. I just use a crescent and bend then back outward slightly so the new shock fits. It’s usually not the bushing but the metal spacers that won’t fit . 🍻

I noticed that the rear shock was rubbing on the coil spring perch when installed the lower bolt have u had any problem with that.

Since the install I haven’t had a problem even since the last time I’ve been wheeling , they don’t touch right now, was considering trimming perch or relocating on the shock bracket. I’ve even seen guys flip the shocks but considering all that I may Re axle all together soon to 8.8 so it hasn’t been a total issue yet, but still in the back of my mind, I bet it would bother a good suspension mechanic that I let this go haha , cheers!!

@@ATEMOFFROAD They make shock adapters that move the rear shock away from the spring perch. Extreme Terrain or Quadratec sell them. Easy install and work well.

That tool you called "channel locks" is actually a locking pliers. Most people call them Vice Grips since that was the original brand that made them. Channel-Lock makes lots of different tools, but most people still call adjustable pliers "channel locks" for the same reason they call locking pliers "vice grips", circular saws "skill saws", an occilating tool a "fine (Fein) tool", a reciprocating saw a "sawzall" (or worse, "sawzaw"), etc. ✌️

And Nice catch , but I know they are vice grips pliers , I just didn’t have the right words in my mind to call them out correctly at that time in the video. 💥 nice, thanks for watching it looked tight but the shock clears with a small gap between the spring perch and shock body. If your spring perch touches you can sand or notch some out with a angle grinder to be on safe side

@@Fishslayer04 no worries bro, I don’t have a link but 4wp stocked these shocks - was best deal I could find, what I did was go on the procomp website , choose my lift and selected the shocks I needed and copied part numbers. they have different models to choose from , I’d start there , they also offer a selection of places where you can order the shocks too

No you don’t need to jack up the jeep, I just removed the wheels so y’all can see and there’s more room to work on them. You can probably do a hard driver on the steering wheel to take the passenger side off and vise versa. Without taking the wheels off. 🍻

You lost my confidence when you used your ratchet as a hammer. ALWAYS use the RIGHT tool for the job!

That’s Fair! But silly all at the same time! Look closer is a ratchet/ hammer. Wera 8002 C Koloss 1/2 inch Square Drive Ratchet with Hammer,5003692001 a.co/d/1RP2nth The ratchet is well over made to handle the same forces applied as if it were to drop 6 feet from the ground. Should you not drop your tools? It may not look safe but it was well worth purposefully dropping the tool than going back to the box to get a hammer thats well over made for this task.. I seriously do not advocate the improper use of tools. But we are assisting the movement of a loose bolt here. 🤷‍♂️
