Love this, thanks Key Fob Rob. Only thing I'd add is one mistake I was making -- I was squeezing the sides hard in when using just the key to drive the battery slot out. Wound up scratching up the key fob (still works). However, when you squeeze the sides AND push the slot out with the same hand in one motion, then only a minimal amount of key pressure needed. No needle nose pliers needed! Thanks again.

Good tip. The key is thicker than the space he’s poking the key into, and I broke it.

Thanks! I bought a certified pre-owned Audi, and one fob failed almost immediately and the other about 8 months later. The technique you show is exactly how it works, but mine were not quite so easy to remove. Maybe my thumbs are too weak. But now I know how to do it rather than driving 20 miles to the dealership and embarrassing myself.

Strong thumbs are a must! These things get really stuck. That's why I used the mechanical key to assist with sliding the tray out.

For those struggling to get the battery tray to slide out, I found it better to wiggle it firmly with my fingers while pushing the two buttons in. The wiggle action frees it quickly. I had a hard time using a metal instrument because i had to push so hard it damaged and scrapped the plastic.

There is no need to use the key. Just squeeze the sides, that mechanism has 2 sets of latches, one for the metalic key and one for the battery, just squeeze a little more for the battery. Want to see how the mechanism works, play the video at 0.25 speed. That being said, thank you for the video, had no clue where is the battery and how to take it out.

I believe I broke my fob doing this. I was able to remove the battery compartment to change the battery, but now the side buttons won’t spring back open. They stay compressed. So when I try to put the hidden key back into it, the side buttons won’t catch/spring open anymore. Any way to fix this??

The battery tray likely isn't pushed in far enough

Yes, unfortunately it is. Even when the tray is out, the side buttons stay depressed. It’s like there’s a spring missing or something.

This did not help me but I figured it out anyway. With this video, I struggled with where to put the key and which direction to apply pressure with the key while trying to access the battery. When I tried this, the "battery drawer" did not budge. Plus, I was risking hurting the plastic with the end of the key (multiple scratched) due to the two questions already mentioned about the key (placement and pressure direction). I then watched two other videos on the same subject with the same key fob. Neither of them referenced using the metal key at all when trying to open the "battery drawer." They both said to press the two buttons while trying to put out the drawer. They both also mentioned moving the drawer side to side while trying to pull it out. The second video did not make much of a fuss about rocking the drawer side to side, so that video did not solve my problem. However, the third did. It said one really needs to work at rocking the drawer side to side and said it was because the drawer can get stuck. I then tried more mussel and worked it out (without using a key). Lastly, I would like to mention that as the key fobs age in our pockets and purses (and get more and more dirt and fine particles that work their way into our key fobs) I suspect the wiggling side to side is going to become more and more difficult - and therefore, needs to be emphases even more than it was in the 3rd video. (If this post that took me 10 minute to write helps at least one person, it will be worth it. However, I wont be holding my breath!) ... there you go little posted buddy, off into the cosmic online intro-verse never to be heard again...
