DIY: How to Reset Volvo S70 V70 C70 Service Light

Video tutorial on how to reset the service light on your Volvo. This procedure applies to the Volvo S70, V70, and C70 between the years 1998 to 2000. This will light will illuminate in certain intervals to alert the driver that the vehicle is in need of an oil change. This particular vehicle I am working with here today is a 2000 Volvo S70.

Tools/Supplies Needed:
-none
Procedure:
-insert the key in the ignition but do not turn it yet
-press and hold the trip meter reset button
-while still holding the button, then turn the ignition to the run position or position number two
-once the service light flashes, release the button
-finally turn the ignition off
-now turn the ignition back on to ensure the light has been reset

Great stuff. I just bought an s70, so now bingen on volvo videos. As my A.c needs re gassed the lds on the dash flash when I start the car. Hopefully these will go away when I get it done 👍🏻

I did what was required, the service light blinked. When I turned the ignition off and then started the car, the light was still on. Any other recommendations? Thanks

I made the mistake of holding the button until it *stopped* flashing, but that seems to cancel the reset. You need to release the button while the lamp is still flashing.

My service light comes on for approximately 15-20 seconds every time I start up my 1998 S70 and then eventually disappears- is this what I should do to help re-set it? Will I still be able to believe the service light at other points- it feels a little like the boy who cried wold in car form... thanks for the help!

I have the same issue with my s70 😅 unfortunately the trick in the video doesn't do it for me, it still shows for about 15 20 seconds and then disappears

Your car could be due for an oil replacement. If it has already been done, then reset the light.

Yes, I have a 1998 S70, the service light did NOT flash. This procedure did not work.

Unfortunately, this procedure only works on '99 and later models. For earlier models, you need an "Oil Service" reset tool. I mistakenly bought the tool before I learned that I didn't need it for my '99 V70! But, take heart, you at least can code your own key fobs on the earlier models. From '99 onwards requires specialist equipment for that.

This does not work on some 1998 Models. Some 1998 models require a tool to reset the service light. My S70 T5 needed a tool while this method worked on my old GLT.

@@Fjallkloka_Aventyr The OEM Volvo Diagnostic tool, really the only easy way. Or you can just yank the bulb from the dash cluster. Its also the tool that can program fobs to your car etc...

@@winnington23 sigh why didn't I think of that.. I've ripped out the instrument housing 2 times lol. You know why the odometer has stopped displaying? its in the same display as the tripmeter but only the trip is showing up. It's not a bulb.

I think this is just a reminder to tell you to change your oil, air filters etc.. Else something else would be flashing and then you'd know what is wrong. Someone correct me if I'm wrong please 🙈
