Just a quick question about our '71 Ghia. The straps are not in it at all. Would it be easier to take the hinges off to replace the straps?

Hi it will depend if the rollers are installed or not, if the rollers are installed it will be necessary to remove at least one roller to install the strap sometimes it is easier to do off the car, but it is possible to do on the car but it is a bit fiddly and you will need the door card removed to access the rollers. It is tight but the hinge can be removed without getting the rollers off and if not wanting to remove the door card this can be a good option, however to get the reassembled hinge in with the rollers fitted sometimes it is necessary to slightly enlarge the hole in the door where the check strap and rollers go through for this method

@@CalifornianClassics Greetings, The door straps for neither of the doors were installed when I bought the Ghia. I think it may easier to unscrew the door part of the hinge, install the straps, then screw on the hinges. Or am I thinking incorrectly?

@@bradleyspear167 I have the same question - Should I start by removing the top hinge from both sides of the door (Door + Pillar)? or should I do this job with the hinge still attached? Thanks. @Californian Classics
