Beautiful work, as a suggestion try a tiny dab of silicone under the hinge it will have great strength. Also and maybe you do this paint the hinge to camoflage. Good luck.

Thanks for the tip! I'll try that out.

I wonder instead of a metal hinge using a small piece of leather which could be sandwiched and glued between the extra sections of wood....? Also if you wanted to have the wings centered you could burn a hole through the body section and use rivets in place of screws.

I know I'm way late to this comment but I just wanted to say thank you for the leather idea! After some experimenting this does work with a little bit of hand carving to make space for the leather so the wood can lay flat enough to glue. Only downside is it's not firm enough for the wings to stay in place but I plan to use this idea for a few future projects!

Nice work. Mind if I ask why you chose to do the details with hand wood burning instead of just popping the design into the Beamo and doing it with that?

Thank you. As an artist I want all my work to feel handmade. All my work is a mix of hand woodburning, gunpowder and watercolors. In this design each bird is sold for $95. Unfortunately work made via the computer is typically not as well respected or valued as a handmade art piece- since the general public doesn't understand the amount of work that goes into designing a file.

@@ArtistExplores Completely understand! I was hoping that was the case and not that the Beamo just couldn't handle the fine line details.....especially since we're considering getting one to boost funds for the rescue. Loved going through your videos and seeing some of your amazing work!

Thank you! Oh no, the Beamo can get very detailed. I create a lot of jewelry with fine details and the engraving is impressive for how affordable and small the Beamo is. It's not as accurate as larger lasers but I use a .25 lineweight from Adobe illustrator and can get tiny details on my earrings.
