I’m leaving this comment because I want to give a positive review and to recommend Petie’s products, specifically the Slant Board. The slant board from the Tib Factory is my favorite of all my slant boards, wedges, and door stops. Meaning, I’ve bought several types from different places, in different sizes, and different materials (foam, metal, rubber, and wood). The Tib Factory’s slant board keeps it simple with a one-piece fully assembles design; the approach angle and overall width feels great for stretching and getting that deep squats; and the grip tape feels amazing and adds more feeling of stability to an already structurally-sound design. I wish I had never bought the other slants that I have, but at least I have a door-stop for every room in my house 😂

This is great. DIY is easy for this. One thing I did different is that I made two slant boards 8" wide, they could easily work if 6" wide. If I need a single board I just but them up together and I can split them if I need to do a single leg exercise or a wide leg squat. I made mine this weekend in about 3 hrs start to finish and I'm slow, but I have a ton of scrap wood. I used 1/2" plywood and a birch plywood for the top and applied adhesive non slip tread. I put a sheet of really thin "surface board" on the bottom. From there I sprayed some adhesive and then glued some rubber shelf "glass drying" material with the holes in it. It looks like a small net. That really helps when I put my board on a balance board to raise it up. Yours is the best available, if you don't or can't make it yourself. I really wanted the two boards so I could carry them in my BOS (Bag of Stuff) to the gym.

Hey, I just made myself one of these - but fyi, the numbers are wrong... 1x6 butted to a 1x8 = 14". The longest edge of the triangle pieces is shorter than this on your measurements. Fortunately I only cut 4 pieces before checking & finding the error so I was able to improve & correct with a little redesign. Pleased with my handiwork 🙂
@ThePetieProject
@ThePetieProject 2 жыл бұрын
In the USA we have strange measurements. 1x8 is actually 3/4" x 7.25" and 1x6 is actually 3/4" x 5.5". If you get the boards precut from a hime improvement store they will come in these sizes and line up with the triangle s. If you are ripping down your own boards, you are correct that they will be larger than the triangles. Sorry for any confusion and glad your build went well

Do you have any feedback or knowledge on how the pine holds up against sweat? I work out in a non commercial gym with no a/c in Texas that just has a giant fan so I'll sweat profusely and wondering if that would affect the wood at all.
@ThePetieProject
@ThePetieProject 3 жыл бұрын
I don't think exposure to sweat will be an issue. I have used mine in the heat of summer outdoors in NC and it has held up fine to sweat. If you want an extra layer of insurance you could always spray a coat of poly on the top but I don't feel it's necessary.

The slant board and ATG squat wedge I make at www thetibfactory.com are both 24 degrees. I am personally standing on the full 24 degree board for stretching and mobility movements and squatting with just the heels elevated on the ATG squat wedge instead of my entire foot on it which puts me at a slightly shallower angle since I'm just elevating the heels. I would go with somewhere in the mid twenties and if it feels too steep for certain movements you can always just elevate the heels instead of the entire foot by standing a little lower on the board

00:51 why 24 angle? KOT guy uses 30 degree angled slant board
@ThePetieProject
@ThePetieProject 3 жыл бұрын
If you are referencing the slant board made by The Slant Board Guy, I believe his is on a 26 degree angle. Anything in the mid 20s is going to give you similar benefits and work well for knees over toes training. Your shoe wear also plays a role in your angle (unless you train in barefoot / zero drop shoes). My 24 degree angle is based on available solid wood materials (1x6 and 1x8) that will line up with the long side of the outside support pcs for a clean finished look, since I am using solid wood instead of plywood for the build. Feel free to modify your build if you feel you want a slightly steeper angle, but I've found that 24 degrees works great for poliquin step ups, vmo squats, and jefferson curls! You can also give some variability in your angle by either keeping only your heels on the slant board and having your toes off of it (like Ben does for his heavier weighted squats) as well as mixing up your shoe wear.

It will depend on what you already have as far as hardware goes and if you can get shorter lengths of wood. If you are buying everything new at current lumber prices you are looking at something around the following 1x6x6 6.95 1x8x6 9.35 1x2x8 1.98 1.25" Deck Screws (8.98 for 1 lb of screws) 1.575" Deck Screws (8.98 for 1 lbs of screws) The grip tape can be tricky to find in smaller rolls. Amazon has some smaller rolls for $10 or $15 for 4 inch and 2 inch (link amzn.to/2SO9684) but that will change the look of the project vs the 3" roll. I got a big roll of 3" from an industrial supply store but it will be way overkill if you are only buying for this single project. Hope this helps!

Is a slant board good for knee strengthening / knee pain or sledding? Or can I just do slant board exercises at home and then go on walks? I don't rlly have room for sledding in my house and would feel weird doing it where people can see me. Btw I have a tendonitis type pain in my left knee (just under the kneecap)
@ThePetieProject
@ThePetieProject 2 жыл бұрын
Both are great for strengthening the knees. Backwards walking and isometrics are a good starting point if your pain is severe but returning to full range of motion slow squats will need to be addressed at some point and the slant board is a great tool for getting your range of motion back and loading the quads. Slant board exercises at home are a great option.

@ThePetieProject 2 жыл бұрын
It sounds like you may not be ready for slant board squats yet if they are causing agitation. This isnt a problem and doesn't mean they won't feel great for you in the future. A good starting point is reverse walking to get circulation around the knees and quads. Once you get comfortable with that you can add load with reverse sled. Once that feels good, try coming back to the slant board and using assistance with your hands. If you stand off the end of the board instead of putting your entire foot on it, it will also be a less extreme transition. You can also do isometrics by getting into a shallow position that is comfortable on the board and then holding it. I hope these tips helps ease you into it. You will feel it in your quads over time but if you are experiencing pain it's completely blocking that signal so you will need to look for other easier alternatives to start to build that connection of safety with movement in your knees
