I’ve been making my own detergent for 2 years, I do 4 loads a day, and my washers aren’t ruined at all!! And they also are so much cleaner, the drum stays clean from the baking soda!

I've been making my own laundry soap since the '90s. It has borax and a shredded up bar of fels Napa and you don't need baking soda if you're using washing soda. You don't need to add essential oils if you use the soap because it smells great. Epsom salt and sea salt will definitely ruin your clothes after a while.

Epsom salt reacts instantly with washing soda to precipitate magnesium carbonate. So there’s none in solution to damage clothing. Salt is inert. So you’re wrong.

The salt will literally break down the fibers of the fabric over time and it also makes fabric shrink and fade more. Great video!! I make our Laundry detergent too! I use Washing Soda, Borax, and grated Kirk's Castile bar soap (or Fels Naptha). Vinegar for fabric softener. It works so well. Our clothes are super clean and smell amazing! I am curious to try the epsom salt as an alternative to the Borax.

Epsom salt contains magnesium which reacts instantly with washing soda and with borax. Chemistry: Borax and washing soda soften water; magnesium in Epsom salt makes it hard. Magnesium + soap -> scum. Go ahead though…see what happens!

Love this!! I didn't have any essential oils on hand but I used lavender Epsom salts like from your previous video where you had shared the recipe. I still had a clean fresh smell! Also, have 3 kids - naturally always messy and my boyfriend is an auto mechanic so completely filthy grease, oil, dirt you name it. I definitely think your recipe gets our clothes a lot cleaner than the regular laundry detergents especially the "specialty mechanic" kind I got conned into paying $28 for a tiny little bottle 🤦 depending on the dirt level, I will add a little bit more than the one teaspoon but overall washes well in cold and hot water. I have also found if you use about a fourth a cup of vinegar with this it definitely works wonders on any odors or real big stains!! ❤

If you’re using regular detergent, appliance repair, man said to only use a tablespoon of the liquid for large loads. We are using way too much because they want us to buy more and it is ruining our washer.

I agree with this, 1-2 tablespoons of tide gets my clothes clean and saves a lot of money. I add a small amount of oxiclean for kid stains and husband stank but I think borax works the same. My clothes are never grimy and come out clean.

Have you ever tried dissolving your powder in hot water before adding to loaded washer? Or using the liquid created as a prewash? 50 years ago this is what my mom and grandma used. If extremely stained clothes you can add a bit of borax as well.😊

For those who want to give u crap in the comments. Traditional laundry detergent is mostly water anyways, and most people are probably using too much, and things like fabric softner just gunk up your machines....so why not save money and make your own soap seems way cleaner than all the chemicals in detergents.

Problem is that DIY recipes rely on soaps, which are unsuitable for modern washers. In fact, they’ve not been used in mainstream laundry products for over 70 years! Mainstream liquid laundry detergents are about 15%-20% surfactants. Look at typical DIY recipes and you’ll be lucky to find examples where soaps are over 1%. The reason is simple: clueless housewives don’t think critically about what they’re doing. They just repeat each other’s mistakes. They rely mostly on wishful thinking and confirmation bias. Your comment is a good example: three assertions based on claims you read somewhere on the internet, from anonymous sources, which are incorrect, but which you are convinced are 100% true and which you now are spreading around.

I have used several years back several different types of DIY dry laundry detergent recipes. In my opinion it does not save you any money if it does not really clean your clothing and protect your washing machine. In my opinion many of these DIY laundry detergent causes a lot of buildup in your machine as well as in your clothing. I rather use a name brand liquid laundry detergent only one tablespoon to 2 tablespoons per load is needed. If you need to soften your clothing white vinegar with a few drops of your favorite pure essential oils for a good smell is all you need . I use a wooly ball for my dryer and a 8 oz glass spray bottle with 2 tbsp of witch hazel 20 drops of pure lavender oil and five drops of tea tree oil and some distilled water mix it all in a old cup that you will use just for this purpose and with a fennel add it into the 8-oz glass spray bottle. Spray the wolly balls once or three times and add it to your dryer with your laundry. It makes your clothing smells so good. Absolutely never use liquid fabric softener in your washing machine and absolutely never use fabric softener sheets in dryer it causes a buildup on your machines which can damage it and it is toxic to your body and environment. I also just found out that Epsom salt hardens your water and it is not good for your washing machine. And to much salt is not good in your machine it can build up in your washing machine. So all of these DIY dry laundry detergent really do not work and damages your washing and really does not save you money. If you really think by using two tablespoons of dry homemade laundry detergent saves you money and really cleans your clothing so does one or two tbsp of store-bought name brand laundry detergent which is manufactured for that purpose and guaranteed to actually clean your clothing and make it smell good.

Also why does she need to have in depth knowledge on the chemistry in order to know what she’s doing and that it works? That’s a bizarre expectation that you’d have.
