You could use the extra flap for a pocket in the journal

Loved this diy video. Thanks so much. And I love your quirky sense of humor throughout. The dental tool disguised as a clay crafting tool hahaha so good.

This was exactly what I was looking for! Found old leather jacket, perfect soft leather for a journal. The saliva trick is priceless, too. Already pricked my finger.

What kind of paper do you use for the inside pages of a leather journal? I don't really know where to look for good paper and am not really finding any that i think would work well at the local craft store.

Springfield Leather Company - sells by the foot, incredibly affordable, beautiful pieces, better quality way lower price than Joanns, Michael's, weaver leather supply AND tandy.... if you don't believe me, go to those websites and compare. I can get a 12sf piece from Springfield for $0.97 to $5.00 per foot and still pay less than the places I spoke about. Yes it depends on what the piece is but 99% of the time it is what you see at joann's and Tandy. I shopped at my local Tandy way before the pandemic. I decided to do research for unique Leather at lower prices online. Found Springfield and now I only shop Tandy when they have vegetable tanned leather on sale. Everything else i get at Springfield Leather like - suede, upholstery, bookbinding leathers, hardware, glue and when they have sales. I have never been disappointed ever and it has been 2.5 years of nonstop shopping with Springfield. 😉

Hi! What kind of leather did you use in the travel journal?!

The base you use to punch hole needs to be soft so punch will go through the leather and into the base to complete the hole. We cut gasket material with hole puncher and our base is lead. I understand you don't want to use lead but go for something soft

rather than cutting that end off, you could have used it as a pocket for loose paper

What type of leather is that? I'm trying to find it but don't know the name of it.

It's likely a thinner (2oz-3oz) chrome tan. You could also use vegetable tan and dye it yourself, but it's more stiff.

Reuse leather from old clothes or purses, the thinner stuff. Goodwill stuff.
