Thank you making this Phillip, I've been binge listening to your podcast on spotify and I'm so grateful you discuss and show this information for free. You really do set a great example.

I've had a filet knife at my worktable just waiting for something like this. Thanks for the tutorial! (Now I won't have to tell people to go into the basement for the knife when we need to filet fish.)

I sit with a notebook. All of 27 tips this time. Not counting the basic ones. No, I am not publishing them as my handwriting needs a code cracker to decode it. Thanks, Phil.

Oh for sure! Great gift especially if you can personalise it. Just take a copy of their favourite knife without them looking!

@@LeathercraftMasterclass I have never tried my hands on leathercraft, but this inspires me to. I do have a good collection of knives for which these slips (sheath) would be the best.

Thanks for this project walk through, I'll make a few for my tools. What grit sandpaper did you use? You recommended 2000 grit for subsequent rounds of sanding/edge finishing, but I'm curious what grit you started at in the video.
@LeathercraftMasterclass3 жыл бұрын
You're welcome Sarah! 4-600 probably, so a medium to fine grit just to align the fibres and smooth any high spots.

HI Phil! Fun video! Do you know if the oil comes from brain by chance?
@LeathercraftMasterclass3 жыл бұрын
I remember reading about it somewhere, but I don't recall brain being one of the sources.

Used to work at a lumber store. To me PVA is usual white wood glue. Can't be quite the same since that glue becomes really hard and brittle. What glu are You using in the video?
@LeathercraftMasterclass3 жыл бұрын
As I understand it, wood glue is based on PVA but has additives such as resins that make it tack up faster and become more brittle to avoid creep. Standard PVA should be very flexible however.

Hello there! What thickness of leather did you use? I think 2,5 - 3 mm is the ideal thickness for project like this.
@LeathercraftMasterclass3 жыл бұрын
Yes, for an outdoor knife those thicknesses would work. A knife slip should be quite thin however as it's only use is to protect you and the blade when stored in the drawer, rather than walking through the bush with it attached to your belt. Ideally you don't want it taking up too much space.
@sporteger23233 жыл бұрын
Yes, your absolutely right. Another question of mine is, if someone insert the knife accidentally wrong in the knife slip and cuts the leather, it happens sometimes whit the thicker leather

By the way, it was a great short project! I love it, thanks for the great video's
