Great review, thank you for making it. I wanted to ask, where did you get your letter stamp set?

You're welcome! Same place, Metallic Elephant. I think the set was around £500 at the time.

Great idea but I can’t get my Olfa cutter’s blade to rotate if I run it against a strop at that angle. I’ve tried loosen the screw to enable it to run more easily but alas to no avail 😢 Any suggestions ..?
@LeathercraftMasterclass11 сағат бұрын
Try lowering the blade angle (lay it flatter) to get a little more friction. As long as the very edge still makes contact with the strop, it'll sharpen it. Alternatively, get the NT Cutter rotary knife, you've seen it works..

If you're happy slapping one layer of edge paint on and calling it good, I agree. But tell me that after the 4th layer of edge paint with an hour in between for drying time and sanding. Can you tell I don't like edge paint lol?

Would a hot creasing iron also work, or must a flame be used?
@LeathercraftMasterclass21 күн бұрын
Good question. If you tried this with a creasing iron, you would get liquid edge paint on the tip, and it would begin to burn. A flame for a split second won't affect the paint.

That's a nice knife!...That slant makes a hell of a difference...to be honest I find my cutting mat has enough friction to hold the leather in place skiving. Tend to only use my granite slab for tooling etc., Yours is a handy tip though.

@daverooni7763Ай бұрын
Any thoughts on your hammer vs a maul?

I find a maul a bit cumbersome, but it really depends on personal taste and what you're used to. A maul may be better suited to detail work such as tooling however.

I have been searching all over looking for tips on dealing with lambskin leather as I find it impossible to skive and punch chisel holes for sewing as the whole are not easy to see to get the needle through the correct spot as the whole almost disappear even though I push the chisel completely through multiple times. Also find it very hard to cut as it stretches so easily while cutting. Is goatskin that much different from lambskin? And if so any advice on dealing with sheepskin?
@LeathercraftMasterclassАй бұрын
Yes, goatskin is much easier to work with as the skin is more dense and stretch resistant. Lambskin takes more skill to work with and it's delicate, but with a sharp enough blade, it should skive well. Try pressing the blade down harder as you skive forward, this compresses the skin making it easier to cut. Sheepskin is different and not as nice as lambskin. It's not that great to work with and is the cheapest skin for a reason.
@same_2u2Ай бұрын
@@LeathercraftMasterclass Thanks for the advice. I ordered some cowhide to work with. Probably shouldn’t have started with lambskin leather 🤣.
