plan for 2 weeks and take 5, pretty normal for boat jobs! It seems no matter how long you plan for, the sea gods want more - but once you get back out on the ocean, it is all worth it!! Thanks for sharing ⛵

You’re welcome! And yes, the thought of being so close to sailing to the horizon is definitely keeping us going!

A tasty tea was had that night mate, perfect after a long day of boat jobs! Thanks again and also for the encouragement!

Well done! As you say, boat jobs are never easy but once the hatches and portlights are watertight you will have achieved something major in your progress! Best wishes from Salcombe. James

Beautiful Salcombe, such lovely memories from visiting last summer 😍 I’m already starting to see the difference in the bilge with the water level dropping off a lot! I always expect a boat job to take more time than thought and have seen videos of people changing out a hatch or two. But doing six port lights and eight hatches is a bit of a marathon! 😂 thank you for the encouragement!

Rob, well done. Need to replace mine on my Catalina 28. Where did you source your hatches and portlights?
@sailinghjem6 ай бұрын
Good luck! I went to Lewmar direct as a family member had a discount that made it a bit cheaper than the online chandleries. Not that much cheaper though! I did have a few more to buy that they didn’t have in stock and I just used online chandleries. There was no one cheapest, so I just ordered from the place that offered the cheapest for each hatch type. Unfortunately they’re so expensive that they qualify for free shipping, so this was definitely the cheapest way to do it!

Fantastic video- thanks! I found it a bit odd that they open INTO the boat. Did you have an option to buy a different model that open out?
@sailinghjem3 ай бұрын
@@en8581 thank you! Nope, they all seem to open inwards. I think it does make sense as you’re not going to trip over them that way 🤣

water and boats really dont mix lol, hows the dehumidiefier work for you on the boat does it draw alot of power
@sailinghjem8 ай бұрын
It works well with a tube taking water from the dehumidifier directly into the bilge. It doesn’t cost a great deal to run, probably about £0.20 a day.

Cheers, another nice video. Did someone say? " What sort of an idiot came up with the design for these!" Never mind, lovely weather for ducks. I am hoping to get my boat ready as the weather on the west coast improves????? The fish looked nice!😃
@sailinghjem8 ай бұрын
Thanks very much, also hoping the weather improves, the outdoor work has been fairly miserable for a couple of months straight now!

The only sealant you need on hatches and portlight is butyl rubber tape. It remains flexible and water tight for ever, and if you need to remove a portlight you can do so without too much problem and no damage.
@sailinghjem8 ай бұрын
It’s absolutely brilliant stuff, thank you for sharing. We will be using it on our hatches as an alternative to the messy stuff. Hoping it’s as good as people have been saying 👍

Well it certainly has been cold outside with no kind of atmosphere and I have been on my own more or less 😀

Are the failed ones all on the same side? If so likely the problem was sunshine because the yacht was previously always moored in a marina facing the same direction. Nice work, how much do you charge to do a window 🙂
@sailinghjem8 ай бұрын
Unfortunately they all leaked Peter! But they’d done a good shift 😂 happy with result considering we haven’t done anything like this before!
@Martin37vg8 ай бұрын
Don,t talk to me re . windows One window a day in the motorhome and that was quick compared to my 1975 yacht. .Manufacturers .use a non setting ,non adhiesive product to install them. I get the idea but at about six years old the product has a skin on it and water gets down against surface of the van ,boat or whatever. I put them back in with Sticks like Sh*t and not a leak for next 7 years . Did the yacht the same but used CT1 this time . only four windows but dealing with 50 year old screws, parting frames ,sourcing new rubber seals etc was a bit of a challange . . Good job looking forward to see how you get on with the hatches . Still think the chippy at Seaton Sluice is best locally and I do not own it. More rain on the way. Batton down the hatches .....hmmm unless you have removed them!
@sailinghjem8 ай бұрын
Season Sluice chippy is bloody lovely, agreed! And you’re right… hard to batten them when they’re not in 😂

Add fly screens they are horrible ports..cant hardly shut after that and the screen tends to deform out of the gasket. For some they pop out. No adjustments !
