How do you like the ceiling fan/light combo? Does it get good air circulation? I’ve seen it come through on ads and have considered it for my kids’s rooms. Love this build and I’m considering doing something similar for my boys. Thanks!

Thank you!!!! It is not the most powerful. I'd do something bigger next time. Creates air flow but it's not powerful enough for that room

Amazing job! How did you secure the ladder to the floor?? I'm thinking about doing this for my 9 year old in his room.
@thebrokenmasterpiece
@thebrokenmasterpiece 4 ай бұрын
Do it!!! He still loves it and about to turn 11! So when it's wedged in there and secured to the top frame you don't have to secure it to the floor. It fits very very snug so it doesn't move.

Can I ask what Wood you used for the original 2x6's, and where you got it? I don't have many lumber yards near me, and people have told me not to use pine from Home Depot for furniture. Also you square and plane the wood before using it? I don't have a jointer or planer so I'm not sure if it's a necessary step
@thebrokenmasterpiece

The white wood from home Depot or Lowe's is great if you can get there early and pick out the straight pieces!! You lay them on the ground there and next to each other and pick out the best ones. Some are warped, yet some are so great and straight! Those pieces are perfect to build with!

How do you connect the 2x6s to each other, at the 2 corners? The 2x6 that runs from one wall to the other that the ladder eventually sits under, how is that connected? Thank you!!

Looks great! Did you sand or paint the plywood after you screwed it to the crossbeams?
@thebrokenmasterpiece
@thebrokenmasterpiece 5 ай бұрын
Yes! I think you're talking about the 2x4 underneath? I stained those before putting them up. The plywood (the bed part?) I did not sand. We layered a beadboard white wall panel from lowes over it later before we put his mattress on it

What measurements are the pine steps and the small boards you used to wrap the 2x4 ladder posts
@thebrokenmasterpiece
@thebrokenmasterpiece Ай бұрын
The pine is 1x4 and then cut to the width of what you want your stairs to be! The wrapping is 1x5!

This is absolutely amazing! You did a great job! I am in the process of creating this layout for my 7yr old son! I’m pondering the ladder, it has me a little stumped. How wide did go with your ladder? Also, what did you use to cut the notches?
@thebrokenmasterpiece
@thebrokenmasterpiece 4 ай бұрын
Ok so no notches!! Watch the process. Build the 2x2, then using 3.5x1's you work from the bottom up. Add the two, place the step, add two more, place the step. Glue, screws. All that. Then once you frame the columns it looks built in!!
@tanthony4032
@tanthony4032 4 ай бұрын
Ty so much for the fast response. I apologize I should have been more specific. I am speaking of the notches in the 2x4 at the top of the ladder that the actual bed frame rests on. It is around the 2:10 mark in the video and there is actually a picture that pops up briefly.
@thebrokenmasterpiece
@thebrokenmasterpiece 4 ай бұрын
Ohh!! Those! Okay so it just needs to be the width of that front framing board which is approximately half of the 2x4 and your height will be determined by the height you have your bed at.

What size bed is up there and how wide are the beams from the wall? My sons bedroom is same length but our ceiling is about 10ft high

How did you attach the front frame board to the wall in front of the window?
@thebrokenmasterpiece
@thebrokenmasterpiece Ай бұрын
There is a little piece of 2x4 we screwed into the wall by the window to be able to complete the frame, but the weight is on the other walls and the stairs 😊

Is the only support for the front 2x6 the ladder? Did you secure the ladder to the floor?
@thebrokenmasterpiece
@thebrokenmasterpiece 6 ай бұрын
It's not secured to the floor because it's so solid it does not budge. The surrounding frame is all secured into the studs so it's not going anywhere
@clarenceng6093
@clarenceng6093 4 ай бұрын
Not sure if this question makes sense. I don’t have any house framing knowledge. I assume studs are the actual frame of the house which are then covered over with drywall? But how did you know where the studs are behind the drywall?
@thebrokenmasterpiece
@thebrokenmasterpiece 4 ай бұрын
@@clarenceng6093 stud finder! You can get one for cheap. It finds the stuff in the wall so you are drilling wood into those, which is the house frame- super sturdy

How is the mattress getting ventilation? Do you flip the bed once a month? Otherwise there’s a concern about mold growth…
@thebrokenmasterpiece

no mold issues here! we have good ventilation in our house but flipping the mattress is a great idea!
@amystern123

They also make mattress underlays specifically for bunk beds and lofts. They’re a thin layer which permits airflow and reduces the chance of mold. If you search for mattress under layer to prevent mold, some options will come up.

Were you able to get untreated 4x4s? All the ones at home depot are treated to be used outside and i prefer not to put that wet mess inside. If they were treated, did you have them dry out for awhile? Also, i can only work on one step at a time as well. My husband asks for a whole project budget and sometimes i can't provide. I'm like, i can only focus on one step at a time😂😂 Sorry, i don't pay attention. You used 2 2x4s
@thebrokenmasterpiece
@thebrokenmasterpiece 3 ай бұрын
SAME!! We literallly just went one step at a time! You can do this!! And yes because they were going to be wrapped, 2 - 2x4's worked PERFECTLY! and were safe to use inside!!
