What I've done on mine was added a progressive spring from my RC offroad truck and also installed an oil field shock damper from the same truck. The damper makes it feel like a hydraulic brakes. So when you step on the brake it dampens the movement and when you let off, it doest snap back. It works awesome and the feel is realistic at a fraction of the cost.

What would really work well, what's called a Dash Pot. Think of a syringe, then plug one end, and as you push, it gets harder and harder to compress the air trapped inside. If set up right, it would feel exactly like pushing a brake pedal, soft at the start, and hard further down, you just need to adjust the amount of air inside, like bleeding a brake system and leave just the right amount of air, it will push the pedal back to its original position all on its own, no spring needed.

Thank you Chris for posting this mod - I've just done your mod to my G27 pedals and it's by far the best feel the pedal has ever had (I've tried most of the other mods except the linear potentiometer). I did do a mod of my own which I'll share, may be useful for you and others. I removed some of the material from the top cover just behind the brake pedal, to allow the pedal to be accessed without removing the pedal faces/top cover. I just used a hacksaw blade and file to remove enough plastic to allow the pedal to swing back, so now after removing the 2 small hex screws in the top red part of the pedal, there is plenty of room to swing the pedal back and tune the spring stack. I also drilled a small hole through the top brass mount (and the plastic red outer) to allow a small Allen wrench to be inserted to stop the brass rod from spinning when removing the small hex head screws. Now I can open up the brake, add or remove washers etc and be back testing in under 5 minutes. Cheers

Finally someone that gets it. I'm specifically tuning my pedal for gt sport and you know your stuff. I'm just wanting a consistent linear force for braking and the best I've found so far is stock spring + rubber + nerf rival round (sponge) inside the spring. It makes a click when you press it, which is annoying, so I'm still looking for options.
@chrisaaron60423 жыл бұрын
Done the same thing with the nerf ;) as well as many other rubbery/foamy objects myself. This mod was the only thing that worked well for me. Hope it does for you too!

I tried the gteye set, but the brake spring is too stiff, too short of a travel due to thickness of spring and feels unnatural. What works for me to feel like the real brake is use the gteye clutch spring for brake. Feels so much more realistic and longer travel. I then used the original brake spring for clutch since it's a little stiffer than the original clutch spring but less stiff than the gteye clutch spring.
@asherwiggin64563 жыл бұрын
You do know that the potentiometer actually has a built in firmware that makes it non-linear
@Kuli240003 жыл бұрын
@@asherwiggin6456 Yes, I know that. And that's why I combat it with a squishy object that gets exponentially harder to squish as you squish it. It feels amazing to me, night and day difference, so that's good enough.

Looking at the videos for the MVH Studios spring, you installed yours upside down. Similar to the GTEYE spring, the coils that are close together are on the bottom, away from the pedal.
@paolostrada938 ай бұрын
The MVH and GTEYE springs are made to the same spec afaik. The deadzone issue that you talk about actually affects PC users as well, because the deadzone is in the pedal firmware and can't be changed at all.

I did a similar idea, i am using a piece of wine bottle cork (50%) in the bottom, a piece of soft pecil eraser (25%) and nothing else (25%) it feels fantastic for the money. The only cons is that the displacement is short now. Maybe the linear potentiometer (is the pressure progresive?) is better but expensive compared with this 25 Cents (usd)

If I'm not willing to put quite this much effort in, would the GTEYE spring be the best simple mod? Basically I want the second step of resistance to be, like you said, at about 70-80%. I thought about just chopping a bit off the rubber but if I need warranty service that would be a bad look. Is the GTEYE too soft? I'm also not interested in it feeling like a "real" car, I just want to race in comfort without hurting my knee or bending my wheel stand.

then just adjust your brake gamma or other brake settings if u just want it lighter and not realistic.

Very well made video Chris. On the subject of pedals, do you know of anyone who supplies replacement potentiometers for the G29 pedals. I have dismantled and cleaned mine numerous times, swapped them around, etc, but they are wearing out. I got some from 3DRAP in Italy but they were too flimsy. I also tried some from DIGI-KEY in the US but found they are "clocked" differently in their arc of travel. I emailed TRUBRAKE in the UK about a year ago and they responded saying they were looking into the commercial viability of making potentiometers but the COVID hit. The latest G29 and G920 pedals have the same old potentiometers so will suffer the same issues. I don't understand why Logitech do not have a spare parts facility or can at least refer people to a third party supplier.
@chrisaaron84453 жыл бұрын
Had the same issue mate. Solved it (for the time being) by getting a secondhand set of pedals. Lucky find to be honest. But I keep the potentiometers and other parts for a rainy day.
