Outstanding video. Your videography is exceptional, considering the tight quarters and darkness that you were dealing with. Absolute bravo! Very-very much appreciated.

Great video! Just what I was looking for for my new JD X370. JD recommends changing the X370 transmission oil and filter after 50 hours (break-in) and then every 200 hours (normal maintenance). And I agree with your comment that a better deigned (threaded) reservoir cap would help prevent debris from getting into the reservoir. Also, a short piece of flexible clear tubing might make it easier to fill the reservoir.

Great video! Thanks! I did my X370 today at 56 hours. Couple things to add... I drove the tractor around for a little bit to heat up the oil. It all drained in less than 5 minutes. Also, I drained almost exactly 3 quarts from it. I drove it up on some decking boards.. the extra 1.5 inches gave better access to drained bolts. Mine filled up with 3 quarts straight in.. didn't need to wait for it to seep in. At 3 quarts its a hair over the fill line. I mowed the lawn after and still same level. Also don't see the need to remove deck. The tip about pushing the filter in further was very helpful. Made screwing the cap back in a breeze. It took me about 20 minutes to complete once I drove it up on the boards, thanks to your video.

That was my first time doing it. Next time it’ll be a half hour or less for sure start to finish.

Just did my x394. I got under there and had no idea what bolts to remove to drain the oil. Thanks to your video I was able to get the transmission serviced with filter no problem! Mine took 3 quarts and is just a little above the fill line. Thanks again..

I thought the X394 has the K58 tran and it’s non serviceable?

@@thethinbluelineZ06 I’m not sure what the transmission number is but it is serviceable and has a filter that can be replaced. I know my x324 has the k58 and it is NOT serviceable…

The cover is designed to relieve pressure if necessary. That could be done with a screw-in cover and one-way valve, but it's the same design that worked fine for 27 years on the JD 325 I just traded in on an X360 which has the same cover.

X370 has K57 transmission and X390 has a slightly beefier K58. Only other difference is an extra 1.5 H.P. and 48" mower deck for an extra $2000 for the 390. I couldn't justify the difference and bought the 370.

Would elevating the tractor so that you can spin the wheels help the trans fill?

I was just tightening one of the two drain plug bolts on my x390 and all of a sudden the bolt wouldn't tighten anymore, it just stayed the same tightness no matter how much further right I go.. did I just shred the threads? What are my options now? Thanks in advance
@AnonymousGameWarden

So I pulled the plug out, and there were metal shavings all over the threads but after brushing them off, it seems like the bolt is fine.. I tried putting the other bolt in the same hole and it just spins.. doesn't tighten. Does this mean I shredded it and need to replace the pan to the transmission. Will leaving the transmission without oil cause problems while I try to source a new pan?

It sounds like you stripped the threads - maybe from starting a little cross threaded. I’d want to get the machine up so I could set eyes on the hole to check. If it is stripped, I think the only option is re-tap the hole for a larger bolt… the big danger is introducing metal shavings into the transmission. You may want to have a shop look at it. It bugs me that they use aluminum for a lot of this stuff because it’s softer than steel and strips more easily. My rototiller has gone through a couple cylinder heads from stripping spark plug threads. All is going along fine and then it just shoots the plug out cuz the threads fail.

Awesome video, I have an X-394 that I need to service, I've changed oil, filter & plugs twice at 50 hour intervals, I'm now approaching 150 hours and want to service the hydraulic system this time. Thanks for the video.

Great video! It felt like I was next to you doing this. The tip about the filter saved a lot of frustration. Thanks for your help. Also does your reservoir cap just spin around the fill hole? I have been trying to tighten it down. Maybe it doesn't tighten?
@ProductiveRecreation

Thanks for watching. The cap isn’t threaded. It’s just a friction plug. I’m not a fan of the design on that reservoir.
