if an aged look is what you are after wouldn't the gaps in the paint be in character?

This is the first time I've seen someone stain after they paint the design. I may try this, that bottom layer always comes up with the oramask decal. Thanks for the new method idea! Sign look great!

Would it be better to use 631 instead of 651 to try to prevent the wood splintering and pulling up with the vinyl? Also, I usually use a thing layer of ModPodge over the vinyl when painting on wood to prevent bleeding. It cuts the time down on corrections. Nice sign!

Susan Cantrell thanks, and yes it would work. I’ve even used wall vinyl as stencils too. Wall vinyl comes off really easy but you have to be careful of bleed through with it.

Can you explain the transfer paper steps?
@PoposWoodworks4 жыл бұрын
Brian Calles once I have the decal made, I take the transfer tape and lay it over the decal. The transfer paper lifts the decal as a whole so you can place it onto your project. Once I place the decal or stencil on the project, I use a paper towel, credit card, or application tool to press it on to the project. Then you remove the transfer paper at a 90 degree angle leaving the decal or stencil. Here’s a link to a KZbin video on using transfer paper. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jqPQiZd8qZ2anJI

this is a really great video. Can you explain why you need the transfer paper? ´I always thought one could just stick the decal on there
@PoposWoodworks6 жыл бұрын
justwantaplaylist1 I have to use the transfer paper because the decals I make, some of the lettering is not connected to the decal “like a stencil” so the transfer paper holds it all together. Just makes it a lot easier to mess with.

How big is your sign just wondering how big of a design the silhouette cameo can make
@PoposWoodworks6 жыл бұрын
Christene Beaver I can’t remember how big it was but the silhouette can make a decal 11 1/2 wide up to 10 feet long

What kind of paint did you use?
@PoposWoodworks6 жыл бұрын
Lilly V I use the Acrylic Craft Paint because it’s a little thicker which helps for not bleeding under the stencil and also dries really fast.
@LillyVeeee6 жыл бұрын
Popo's Woodworks how many coats and how long will you let it sit there to dry before you pull the vinyl off.
@PoposWoodworks6 жыл бұрын
Lilly V I did 2 coats. With the acrylic paint, it dries really fast! I usually put a fan on mine and it’ll dry in a few minutes. (After 2nd coat) once it’s dry I remove the stencil. “Tip” it helps with a vinyl stencil to “blot” the paint on vs just brushing. I do a light coat first to prevent bleeding, once dry add the second coat.

Popo's Woodworks thanks so much. I really appreciate it. I attempted to make something for fathers day and failed miserably. I'll try again. Thanks once again.

Did you have to use any kind of mat to cut out the design or did you just feed the cameo the vinyl and let it cut?
@PoposWoodworks6 жыл бұрын
Cierra Smith I just fed it through. I rarely use the cutting mat anymore.

If you use thick plastic like 1/4"-3/8" and attach it with clamps. You can then paint as you did. Remove immediately the clamps then the plastic template. (unless you machine won't do 1/4"-3/8" deep prints) You can then clean the plastic easy with thinner or water and soap pending type of paint. Then reuse the pattern over and over again. You can use the very same plastic pattern for a pattern bit router and make it cut into the wood for 3-d even. THAT SAID THOUGH...... Keep up the great work!

I’m making my first project. Can you tell me steps for a decal. Is there a specific setting for a decal? What side do I put the transfer tape on to put the vinyl down so I can stick it to the wood. I went to a team building meeting and we completed one. I then bought my own cameo 3. Thanks
@SThompsonRAMM_12035 жыл бұрын
Deb Joslyn , Hi Deb, when you go to cut your vinyl, you will see a laundry list of materials and settings. Choose the vinyl material that you are using. It is best to experiment as no setting is perfect but they are close. Again, always do a test cut. As for the transfer tape... cut a sheet that is slightly larger than your design. Peel off the backing and lay it directly on top of your vinyl. Burnish the design so it adheres to the transfer tape. Now, slowly peel the transfer tape up so the vinyl is now “transferred” to the tape. From here, lay your design on your wood, burnish the design again so it adheres to your wood. Slowly, peel back the transfer tape making sure your design is sticking to the wood. You may need some pick tools, designed for working with vinyl, to help you on releasing stubborn pieces, but the key is to be patient and go slow. I ruined a lot of vinyl by being impatient. Now, after learning the hard way, I can tackle any project.

Did you weld the rope to the ancor or make it a compound path? Also, do you need a commercial license since you got the image online and traced it
@PoposWoodworks7 жыл бұрын
Kasey Musgrove I welded the rope to the anchor. I have a lot of decals with a program I bought but it's web based so when I need to use them I just trace them out. Especially when taking two photos making them into one. If you use a silhouette cameo you can purchase images from their library as well.

Popo's Woodworks thats cool. Yes, I do have the silhouette for about 5 years now. Can I ask what software you use for your decals thats web based? I dont care for the sil library images lol
