Supplies:
• Tray (baking pan)
• Paper* (thick, cardstock): amzn.to/2Vda7mZ
• Waxed paper*: amzn.to/2BK2RGk

• Shaving cream

TIPS
• If you live near a dollar store, all the supplies (minus the paint) can be found there for cheap!
• Do not use shaving cream with gels or moisturizers, they will add extra ingredients you don't want in your project.
• Try to remove all shaving cream from your project without smudging the paint.
• I found placing wet marbled projects outside in direct sunlight is the best way to completely dry them.
• Just about any type of paint can be used with this method.
• Place warped paper under heavy weights to flatten.
• Try a clear spray varnish to protect your artwork*: amzn.to/2RjuCix

Hi, Thankyou I just bought several cans of shaving foam this morning for this. You told us everything you need to get started .. I'm about to after this comment :)) Also I once saw a video using this technique, she used something like a cookie cutter in the shape of a circle & must have left a very thin layer of the shaving cream on there & when it dried it was all shiny. Looked awesome, great for card making & scrapbooking ... if anyone knows of this video PLEASE tell me. Much thanks for this very informative tutorial :))

We did this in art class all the time! ❤️ But what we did was: Step 1: Pour shaving cream on table. Step 2: Add food coloring and mix gently (if you just mix it all together it will make one color). Step 3: Take some regular or thick paper and press on the shaving cream. Step 4: Remove paper and scrape left over cream off with a ruler. Step 5: Let it air dry and it's ready to go home next art class! We all did three pages, so there were three different tables with different colors, and we just added some more coloring when it started to mix! This is a way more simple way to do it, but the way you did it seemed a lot more efficient! Definitely one of my most favorite art projects to do 😋

@Bethany Stocker - thanks so much! I want to do a large piece and don't have a container large enough to hold the shaving cream. I'll try laying down sheets of wax paper on my kitchen island. If it seems I do need some sort of border at the edges perhaps I can form a large shallow container out of aluminum foil?

Karen Buckshi I've done this on 8x10 canvas before I saw this video. I had OK results until I realized I did not let them sit for 3 minutes. In fact, I didn't let them sit at all :( I think that caused the my just uneven OK results. This technique is fun!
@karenbuckshi1816
@karenbuckshi1816 9 жыл бұрын
+Lisa-Lin B thanks for your response. we tried it and let it sit for gge 3 minutes. the paint was a bit streaky rather than marbled. I think it's because the canvases are coated and didn't absorb the liquid as well as paper. will try on a raw canvas next time. note that our try on wood worked quite well!
@LottieSue
@LottieSue 8 жыл бұрын
+Karen Buckshi Raw canvas? Where does one purchase a raw canvas? I wonder if I could remove the pre-gesso coating on store bought canvases? What do you think? Perhaps adding an acrylic ground might work too. I'll have to try it.
@hunnyflash
@hunnyflash 8 жыл бұрын
Any fabric store should have raw canvas :) In addition, you can add gesso to a premade canvas. idk how much it will absorb the paint with in this technique, but in my painting class, I always gesso'ed over the store bought canvas, because it just holds paint and water better in general. That pre-coating stuff is icky! Just be sure to do it like at least 24 hours in advance, so the gesso has time to set up. I haven't tried it, but I'm going to now! Oh, and depending on how you apply the gesso, you can get some very interesting textures! I would apply it on thick with a big palette knife, and you can create a super smooth surface, a raised bumpy surface. I did like some textured stripes before. Might look cool with the marbling :)
