I actually interviewed Faig Ahmed in 2013 when he was nominated for Jameel Art Prize. He design the rugs and collaborate with weavers to make them for him. I think he and his wife own a small workshop or a factory in his country to produce his work. The main idea was to express his feelings about how his culture was melted and changed due to different historical changes, thus the rug being a traditional product became a representation of his country’s identity and the changes in the design are the new hybrid culture. Or at least this is what I understood form our conversation that day.
