You should do a video on cooling performance specs, love this build though. It'd be insulting to belittle this ingenuity to call it a "mod", it is way too professional to call it anything other than innovation.

Great Hack. Also if you run a bead of thermal paste on top of the pads, you can see if they are making proper contact with the plate, and it won't harm thermal contact either.

Did it today! :D. I used 1 aluminium sheet of 1mm thick (I was afraid that it was to thin) and it works very well. GPU is around 60 ºC while VRAM1 is 88 ºC, this at 100% load and without noise which is really awesome for this graphic card model (and even reusing the old termal pads). I was looking for PCB bending while putting the bolts and no bending occurred, however PCB started to bend when I attached to the mother board, I guess that it happened by the lack of supports and the power cords weight. Thanks for this video, It is very helpful and it can be applied to any GPU, you just have to find the correct metal sheet form for any GPU and follow these instructions.

I am not sure this method can only watercool GPU, not VRAM. It seems like VRAMs are cooled by thermal pads and aluminum, right?. I suspect about the VRAM temperature. However, this is an I nnovative built! Good job!

Did you bother to use a multimeter to check continuity from that metal plate to any of the terminals? I’m curious if you fried your gpu? When I machined a plate I had to emboss where the memory chips were so that the adapter plate didn’t short out on the smd circuitry. There were at least a dozen terminals with continuity before I further machined the adapter for clearance. There was no way that a flat metal plate would clear without shorting multiple components. After the proper machining I resolved the issue but it made for a very complex adapter so the average enthusiast has no way to fabricate properly. I own a full machine shop so fabricating them isn’t a danger to the gpu pcb components. I see your video is 2yrs old now and I don’t see a final test to prove your adapter. I hope nobody tried this without using a multimeter to verify a proper installation. Also you should use aluminum or copper and not steel.
@bullrunhunter6489
@bullrunhunter6489 5 жыл бұрын
That’s good. I couldn’t tell where all the contact points were because it was too difficult to see between the board and adapter with far too many smd components. Would be nice if KZbin allowed photo and video comments. It may have cleared if I had used some thick thermal tape but I’m not a fan of thermal tape due to its thermal inefficiency so I initially used some thermal paste and stuck the heatsink adapter plate on to the memory chips so i could use the residue to outline where I needed to machine around the squares in order to emboss them where the memory chips sit to elevate the adapter 1.5mm above the board. This also helps keep airflow between the boards and allows any additional radiant heat to transfer. My GPU project was a gtx1070. I also utilized a large 120x240 coolermaster for a LGA AM4 2066/1151 socket and built the adapter into a finned heatsink with additional fans that was designed to overhang over the main board a whopping inch and a quarter allowing the heat to draw to the outside and quickly cool where twin 30mm, 18,000rpm fans keep the adapter ice cool.. ,Still quieter than the factory twin fans, yet far more efficient. The design we used here dropped temps down to 40-50c. Total spent was $59.99 on the cooler and some minimal time machining a scrap piece of T6061.

Is it cooler than the original mod? Also, what clockspeeds can you get with a cooling setup like this?
@khesesian
@khesesian 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the answer. I'm thinking abaut watercooling my card mainly because i also play BF1 and during that my card hits 84°C at auto fan profile on stock clocks. (1040/1250, i have a GIGA WF3 cooler) And when i use my overclock profile 1080/1400 at 100% fan speed it hits 84°C under a round of any operation. For the cooler i'm abaut to buy a CM Seidon 240M wich should be sufficent even on other, more powerful cards. For my own mod i'm thinking abaut making an X backplate similar to the one in the NZXT's kit so the stress would be even between the screws.
@khesesian
@khesesian 7 жыл бұрын
Hope it's nothing major. This is why i want to do a backplate of some sort if i make a mod similar to yours, maybe even an adjustable one so that later it can fit other cards.
