I suggest that you make a small ball out of a piece of tinfoil instead of using a marble. The marble is too heavy and hard, in case you accidently hit your cat or furniture, if you play too enthusiastically and whip the "ball" around. The monkey fist with a marble might hurt the cat or break something. Another alternative would be just making any kind of roundish, marble sized knot made out of paracord, if you do not have tinfoil.

I used a cloth cat toy with nip as my marble, the cats went crazy playing with it. Thanks for the tip.

I've made paracord lure toys for my cats. They're a little more primitive, with box knot handles. As long as you use them only for supervised play, and your cats don't wind up thinking anything and everything paracord is a great toy, all should be okay.

“If you own a cat or know someone who does ...” LOL! People don’t “own” cats. Even Common Law tells us cats are not “owned” in the same way other animals are. If anything cats own people. I am TOTALLY owned by a cat. 😅 LOL Well, 2 of them actually ----- sisters I adopted as kittens a few years back. They both absolutely love ANY toy I make for them out of paracord. Can't wait to build this 1. You can also build it with the smaller, thinner paracord that's 1 size smaller than the 500, ... if you want a toy that's not so thick. Nice video. I made one of these for my cats a while back... I drilled a hole through the end of the dal rod before tying a single strand Diamond knot though the other side... should have thought about the little knotches like you cut into the rod and then used a constrictor knot....

All I had on hand when I discovered my cat’s love for paracord were khaki/FDE and black. He seems to see those colors just fine. In fact he goes for the length of the cord instead of the end of it half the time and I wish I had paracord he couldn’t see so he would only go after the end instead of cheating and biting the whole cord.

No keep paracord away from animals, the log nylon polymer chains can get wrapped around in their gut un digestible and can be fatal. Thats why the pet approved toys are all short fibre or natural cotton or fibres that can be digested.

I think this is the type of cat toy you only allow that cats to play with when you're using it and supervising them. Not a toy that you would leave around and let them chew on or eat. If you watch them closely I don't think it should be an issue.

Is that marble actually a half inch? Cuz I've got some half inch slingshot ammo I'm using instead and it doesn't seem to match the size in the video. So... either that's not a half inch or Tim has some really small hands...

I have to ask, is the material safe for cats to be chewing on? My cat's bed sits on top of my dresser, where I've used a monkey's fist to replace a lost knob, and she absolutely loves to bat at it from above. Edit: After doing some reading, you'll want to gut the cord at the tassel end, but I'm still not sure whether or not cats should be chewing on nylon.

I meant to mention that in the video, but yes, if the fibers start coming off or you think the cat is trying to eat the paracord, I'd suggest just cutting off the end entirely and melting the monkey's fist end flat.

Yes... it’s perfectly safe for them... if you are really worried about it, you can always wash your cord before making toys for them... if I have scraps of the shiny nylon cord, I will sometimes toss them into a pot of boiling water first.... the softer cotton cords I don’t bother doing that to... but there isn't anything that will hurt them... unless you have cord that is coated with something like scotchguard...

@@TheWeaversofEternity The beauty of this toy is that if the monkey's fist starts to get worn you can reuse the handle and the marble. Friendly reminder to all cat owners: if any of your cat's toys start to become worn, consider replacing them before a piece of string or something comes off, because it can present a choking hazard. Also don't leave toys out where your cat can get them unsupervised.
