Legal Stuff: The braking system is a critical part of your vehicle. The information provided below is for information only. I do not accept any responsibility should your braking system fail as a result of this procedure.
These procedures are meant for someone with decent mechanical knowledge. If you are unsure or have never worked on your vehicle before, then seek help... either from a fellow mechanic or someone knowledgeable in servicing brakes. Otherwise do not attempt this on your own! If in doubt then leave it for the professionals.

Torn boot is one thing, but a puffy boot after pushing the cylinder back in doesn't necessarily mean seal failure. Most of the time, it is just trapped air that can be released by pulling/pushing the bottom lip of the boot up off the cylinder with a metal pick with the sharp end pointed down/away from the rubber so as to not puncture the boot. Once you release that air, you'll hear a quick little puff/hiss and your boot should conform to the correct shape. If fluid comes out, then replace the caliper. All 4 of my calipers had air trapped, would've been quite a waste to replace.

Greatly appreciate the time and dedication to make this video with all the tips on what to do/not do, suggestions for tools, and other comments! This will be the first time attempting to do both front and rear rotors and brake pad change. However, once the wheels and rotors are removed, will assess whether the calipers need to be replaced. Your video has given me the confidence to take on this project. Thank you very much.

Thank you very much for this video. When I saw how long it is, I thought "no way I'm watching this," but I was very interested throughout and enjoyed the whole video after all. I feel ready for doing this job on my wife's car. And thankfully, I have a DeWalt impact wrench ready to help me!

Awesome video -- even if you don't change your brake parts -- it's a good watch so that you learn what needs to be done or not done which keeps you from getting ripped off in the future. Great job!

I've got an '08 Rogue which has 100k + miles on it. Thanks so much for your video. Replaced front pads and rotors. Those rusted caliper bolts were the devil to get out! I had to use a bolt out kit and breaker bar on one of them. I noticed a little tear in the rubber boot when pushing the piston back, so I believe I should replace the calipers. Where did you buy your caliper from?

Thanks for the video.However, your torque mentioned in the video are wrong units. It is 43 N/m not 43 ft /lb Torque member bolts, 19 mm, requires 84.4 N/m or 62 ft /lb Caliper bolts, 14 mm, requires 43.15 N/m or 32 ft/lb service manual page 43

excellent video - if I can add one tip when doing a R/R on pretty much any rotor.... Wash the rotor first with water and dish soap or a mild detergent (Simple Green is excellent also just don't leave it on). Anyway, there will be microscopic bits of metal from the machining process which won't come off easily just spraying with brake cleaner. You will avoid glazing your pads as well as premature wear on your rotors from 'grinding' the filings into the rotor's machined surfaces...

why did you choose to replace the rotors rather than just resurfacing?
@rwhunt99
@rwhunt99 5 жыл бұрын
Depending on wear, if they have been resurfaced once, you shouldn't do it again, the more material you remove, the quicker they heat up and the more often you need to rework or just replace.

Do yourself a favor DO NOT WORRY ABOUT THE FLUID LEVEL UNTIL YOUR DONE.. Get the brakes installed then check your fluid period don't get up and watch anything but the job you have started on the wheel your working on ..Let the last thing you do be checking fluid levels .. PERIOD...Your going to want to completely drain the OLD fluid out anyway when installing new caliper's you don't want old or contaminated fluid running through your new calipers if you can help it...
