When I change oil 🛢, I unscrew the drain plug & unscrew the old oil filter @ the same tim, making both units r completely drained @ the same time

I have a new 2024 Silverado with the 5.3 engine. It takes 8 quarts of 0W20 full synthetic Dexos oil. My dealer delivers 6 oil changes for me for free. I called them to get information on the oil they use. They said they only use GM approved oils, thus it appears the dealer will be changing my oil at 7500 mile intervals for the first 45000 miles. Nevertheless, this video suggests I could easily change the oil and of course then I would be certain of a job well done. So one question: what’s the purpose of prefilling the oil filter? I have never seen this recommended procedure.

I've never done it myself but apparently it makes it so the entire system is all ready full of oil and no part is "dry" so you won't have to worry about any part of the engine not having oil while it circulates through for the first start after the change. Hope I explained that ok.

I may be wrong but I think the oil doesn't enter the filter until the pump is running so it stays empty or mostly empty until then, hence why you fill it during the oil change. I'm no mechanic or even an avid tinkerer so don't quote me.

I would take advantage of the free oil changes BUT I wouldn't wait that Long go every 5k milles to keep it safe I heard they use the cheaper oil but at 5K any oil should be good hope that helps !
