You could also use tire shine on the wheels and then you don’t have to use cards to block the tire, I just use a pressure washer after a few hours and the paint just comes off the tires very easily.

@davinmchone5755 the wheels came out great... I wasn't as patient with the set up as Pat was though. I stuffed the wheels with plastic bags but instead of playing cards and using the newspaper I just got a big piece of cardboard and free handed it. The clear coat like Pat said would have been ideal afterwards but I didn't do that either. A year later, everything is still black but it could use a touch up. I'll do that in the spring.

Nice if it can be done and still look good with out taking wheels off even better. Most if time mechanics shop tighten bolts to tight I've stripped tire iron tryin to remove had to take damn car to shop to have them loosen bolt . So glad this was shown this was the inside wheels may not be perfectly even but over looks go enough for me ha e to try this on my car

I’m a painter of 40 yrs. and I’d NEVER cost the rims while still on the car. 1st. More work in covering.. wheel wells.. body of car... etc.. and have to worry bout sagging.. gravity and all ya know. I’m doing my rims this weekend and each wheel will be removed.. washed and scuffed with green 3m .... then light coats .. I’m doing bout 4-5 THEN clear coat bout 6 light coats!.. DO NOT SPRAY PAINT YOUR RIMS WHILE THE TIRE IS STILL ON THE RIDE YO !

You have to clear coat them..you'll get paint chips much faster without clear coat.

@@morriszachrisson8359 I'm not sure what blank clear is.. I just wouldn't use gloss clear, considering its matte paint.. Unless you want them to have gloss, in that case I'd use gloss paint too. Thanks for watching!!

question to anyone giving input...assuming I sand very well (220 then 400 grit) and clean well and dry...I bought duplicolor green can self etching primer and duplicolor high performance wheel coating gloss black. Do these work together? IF I do a clear coat...do I ... #1. apply the duplicolor clear or go for the 2k (harder more durable)? I read that 2K should only be used for certain paints. #2. should I apply clear coat when still tacky 40-45 min after last paint coat or wait 3 or 4 hours
