PDR tech here. Some of those dents have crowns those need to be tapped down to relieve pressure off the dent. Try the black glue and make sure surface and tabs are super clean. I've been doing this since 98 it is an art. Board placement is everything. Also cross checking is very important dents need to be looked at vertically as well as horizontally.
@bmwflyfisher9 ай бұрын
Agreed. I just bought a similar kit because of a HUGE (3.5”) door ding crease from a windy day at the park. It happens. I can tell you the lifter is not bad. The tabs SUCK in these kits. Also, the glue sticks are horrible. Buy some good glue for your temperature and humidity area. If you buy a crease or round tab variety pack, Anson Tools puts in 4 of their round tabs. All were fantastic. Tapping down seemed workable in the kit. Watch Dent Time…He has some great tutorial videos for free. As this Tech said…The light board placement is critical. Overall, the OP of the video had a great start, and it looks like you watched a video or two. Btw, even the weak pulls from the tabs still move the metal…Might be very small, but it always moves a little (except crowns). As the Tech said…Without the crowns being tapped down…And the sharp pointed dints being tapped into a larger shallow dent…Sometimes the metal just moves to a point and stalemate. Alleviate the stress…If you over do it…Pull it some more. Again, I’m not a professional. Just took out a simple door ding, a deep door ding on a body line, and then a door ding on a hard body line with a LONG CREASE. I got them 98%. I had to watch the Dent Time videos 2-3 times. Great job starting!

@@MasterOfNoneMechanicin a nutshell, every dent that you tried to use a dent rod on, was made worse. Not better. Which is what you did conclude in your video. As for your glue pulling, you did get lucky with that first round soft dent and it came out 90%. But that will encourage others to try this, and if your glue tabs actually stuck how they are supposed to, you would have made many high spots which then have to be tapped down, which is 90% of the job on a typical glue pull. It also takes many years of experience to do.

@@carpathia1221 two things, the pros on KZbin don't want you to know how it's done because it's actually really bloody hard really really hard to learn. The more people that think that they can do it because it looks easy the more chances are going to absolutely f it all up and then bring it to somebody to fix it and then complain that it costs more than when they work quoted or originally. Pros also make it look easy because they've done the job for a good 10-15-20 years and it does look easy because they make it look easy, for them it is easy but it took 10-15-20 years to get there. Not a 5-minute KZbin video.

From one beginner/experimenter to another - watch more training videos. You will learn how to use the glue tabs in conjunction with tapping down high points to get excellent results. The dents on your Miata are relatively easy to repair once you have a strategy that works for you. I agree that some pads are needed to prevent dimples, as well as more training as to where to place the tool. Thank you for the video, I appreciate the candor and courage required to show an absolute beginner at anything, to show real world results as a beginner. I will purchase some of the tools you linked to add to my small Amazon kit. I have also made my own tools along the way to accommodate the specific needs of my Miata's dents. I found that a 1200 watt Magnetic Induction Heater Kit was/is extremely useful in shaping the exact shape of tool needed for any given dent, and then I add that tool to my collection. On a side note, that same tool has infinite number of uses - one of my favorite tools limited only by the bounds of your creativity. It can even be used to heat up body panels by being placed over the panel, despite being parallel to it rather than encircling it.

I did it before and actually its not that easy as on KZbin. You got to be patient and work on it ! You also need to get use to the Sliding hammer which is a very good tool. Pulling the dents out from the fender ( near wheel edge ) is very difficult as it is bended inside and the edge holds very strong so you need to use the PDR rods with different rubber tips meanwhile use hammer to make crowns go down .... As a beginner, you'd done a great job ! Thanks for sharing .... Good Luck to your upcoming PDR projects !

Respect to the professionals but the advantage of getting those tools and trying by yourself is that 1. you will gain experience and eventually learn with patience. 2. You can do as many as you have accumulated over time. 3. Pros are very expensive. A 1 inch ding repair cost $150 in my area. I already got 95% repairs on 3 dings of my wife's new car that happened on the hood that occurred just a week after she got it and a huge fender strike by a electric mopad run-away kid on my own car. (Quoted $600-900 by local PDR pros while the actual panel cost $350 painted... Not including installation). For a small fraction you can get those tools and have at least a 80% repair. Then bring it to a PDR pro for a final (and cheaper) repair. So, no harm on having those cheap sets and trying to save some of your hard-earned money while increasing knowlwedge. 😊

You got it, agree with everything you said. The key points of the video was, 1) it's pretty cheap to get started, 2) don't expect perfect results first time, 3) it's not THAT hard to take out simple dings, and 4) call a professional if you have a big ol' dent on your hands. These products themselves & others like it, over promise & under deliver. Yes, these PDR (Paintless Dent Removers) dent pullers do pull dents but they also leave nasty bumps in their place. You basically replace a dent with a bump which, according to many KZbin vids, one could bang out with a small hammer & special tips; good luck with that - make sure you have enough touch paint. These tools are for professionals or the talented (like actual auto bodyshops or MasterOrNone) not for weekend DIY'er trying to fix nasty hail damage on your hood. The fact is, which no video mentions, pulled dents on sheet metal tend to return with the slightest touch, essentially rendering the reoccurring dent unfixable.

Another PDR tech here, here's some advice for those people that are watching this video. Don't be a fool for people telling how to fix things cheap or free or on your own that clearly take a lot of practice, time and skill. There is a reason why people charge good money to do these jobs. it's because it takes years of learning, time, patients and practise to be even any good at it let alone a master. The people in these videos, 90% of the time or more they are wrong, giving false information, misguiding and misdirecting you. All In the name of getting paid for themselves. They don't care about you, they just want the interaction. And I'm almost certain that if you follow their advice that they've given and it goes wrong that legally they can be prosecuted depending on the country you're in, you might the entitled to compensation. PDR is a skill and art and it takes years to learn, never attempt to do it yourself because if you touch it and bring it to a technician we're going to charge you more, period! You will have changed the way the metal flows making things a lot harder for us and potentially making the damage unrepairable.

Right, and pay $1,200 for a job that's worth $300.
@valliwulf13 күн бұрын
@karkule5919 while I agree that quite a few American companies a charging insane amounts of money. In Australia we can never get that money. Now let me ask you what makes you think a $300 job is the cost and not 1200? The technician had to have years of training which does not come cheap, the tools are all bloody expensive, like you have no idea. It's only in the last 2 years that this whole cheap Chinese tool knock-off thing has made it an option for people to buy cheap crap. In most cases the technician comes to your house, does the job with his years of training and the expensive tools, also had to learn how to remove and repair and replace parts on cars. Have anything that goes wrong he has to pay the insurance or pay for the thing to be replaced, so why would he do the job for $300 if it goes wrong to spend another 1200 dollars having to replace the thing that went wrong or because you weren't happy. also for $300 if you buy the products and equipment to do the job and in the end you have not done the job properly to what you think is a good standard, but someone else looks at it and says that's s*** mate! what are you going to do then you just made it more expensive for yourself to have it repaired by somebody who knows what they're doing, to make it right. There are a lot of people out there with no talent who think they do. People like you you go to the mechanic and say oh no man that's too expensive I want you to do it for this much money. Every single week I do two jobs where someone's had a crack at it themselves and fuk'd it up. When it comes to KZbin videos and learning how to do things many many many of those videos are wrong. There's only one roof lining video on the internet that is correct and what to do and how to do it and even then it is still slightly wrong. There is no correct PDR video on KZbin because they don't want them they're. If you see one it is a short description of something not the whole picture and on top of that without training, the video is useless. Would you spend many many hours fixing something as a paid employee for $300 when you could actually have real money for it. I want you to go and tell your employer that you'll work for 1/3 of your wage every single week.
