Hey Everyone!! Just thought I should mention that Cosplay Apprentice "What the Foam" has just been added to Amazon, but at this point it is just the flat packs that are available, though the rolls should be showing up very soon and will be at the same link. You'll need the roll because the pattern won't fit on the flat pack size. Also, currently it is only available in the U.S. store, so if you live somewhere else and click the link it will take you to whatever product Amazon thinks is most like it in your area, so just be aware.... I don't want to accidentally mislead you!

I'm currently working on a 2nd hat for my Halloween costume (a fancy P.D.). I'm using 4mm Eva foam. It curls when cut, but hopefully it'd be sturdy once I've stitched (yes, stitched) the faux leather over it. I've also made like five masks (one for a friend) with the other pattern. These are amazing!

Hey, how big should the foam be in order to be able to make this hat? I don't know how big of a sheet to buy T-T
@LostWax Жыл бұрын
If you are making the largest size(which you probably aren't) you would need a sheet of foam 480 x 415mm (19" x 16 1/3") for the brim and top of crown, and a sheet 727 x 117mm (28.5" x 4.6") for the Band. That doesn't include the 2mm foam if you want to add any extra details. If you are making a smaller size, you can get away with slightly less foam.

I’ve been trying to purchase the pattern and I’ve tried two different debit cards and PayPal and I get an error that my payment can’t be processed. Also, the foam in the link is for 7 sheets not a roll and it looks like it’s 8mm not 4mm.
@LostWax4 жыл бұрын
Hey there, sometimes your computer will autofill part of your address in the discount box, which makes Gumroad think you entered an invalid coupon code and won't let you finish the transaction. Also could be worth trying a different browser. As far as the links go, it could be possible that "What the Foam" is sold out in the rolls.....it's probably pretty popular at this time of year. Course you could use other foam as if you can find some 4-6mm thick.

Why did you choose hot glue instead of contact cement?
@LostWax5 жыл бұрын
Mainly due to the toxicity of contact cement- I don't want people to use contact cement without proper respiratory protection, so I don't promote it too much.

The 4mm foam would be good to make a top hat.
@LostWax5 жыл бұрын
Indeed, in fact I just had to try my top hat pattern with the foam and it turned out fantastic. and since the foam is black, I didn't even need to paint it. Because the foam is quite stiff, it's a little less comfortable on the head, but if it's a tiny bit big, I would add a little rim of softer foam around the inside.
