In this project, I'll show you how to build a DIY plywood coffee table using a single sheet of plywood. I built this table or bench with my two co-hosts from the Crafted Podcast during the Skiatook Adventure Video Woodworkers 2017 event in Skiatook, Oklahoma this past weekend. Enjoy! Purchase Plans: craftedworksho....

I built one of these shortly after this video came out about 6 years ago. It's served as both a bench for additional guests at my dining table as well as a coffee/side table, and its still strong as ever. Great project to get the kids involved with too since the assembly is just glue and brad nails.

Really cool Project! Rather than cutting the top pieces short and long, could you have staggered them left and right? Then used alternate short and long legs on either side? That should give you a longer bench and fewer cuts. Just a thought.

I like this. One thing I might have done (although harder for sure) is to cut the strips from the full 8' ply. That way you could line up the leg grain with the top grain. What do you think?

Nice build! I'm trying to convince the wife to buy me a tablesaw. I've looked at a ton of these "worksite" saws, but I can't settle on one. Do you have any suggestion? I'm spoiled because when I work in my neighbors shop, I get to use his Powermatic beast.

OriginalAxepack I really like my Dewalt jobsite saw. The fence can't be beat in that class of saw. I don't have the flexvolt version (mine's corded), but I couldn't be happier given the size.

I'm no woodworker - but wouldn't it have been easier to cut the top/longer strips all the same length and just alternate them like - first layer left leg short, right leg full length; second layer left leg full length, right leg short?
@Megatron995
@Megatron995 7 жыл бұрын
If the top pieces were all the same, the alternating lengths of the legs would cause the legs to all be uneven on the other end. It would also leave no way to interweave them with the top strips like they did.
@SmokingSevens
@SmokingSevens 7 жыл бұрын
It wouldn't be uneven if the short leg went under the top piece, and the longer leg went on the side of the top piece.

Very cool - I love plywood strip creations. You can make so many cool geometric forms using this technique. I made a table with half plywood strips, half concrete, but unfortunately it was before I started filming my projects. (some pics here, if interested: goo.gl/photos/e8Tq9CnW6C8Z6oeC7) Seeing this makes me want to work on a couple other ideas for plywood strips that are stirring in my head.... well done. I like the idea of using an electric hand planer. I did it completely differently, by making the legs and top as separate pieces with "fingers", making them less than 13" wide so I could run them all through the thickness planer, and after planing, gluing them together like a finger joint. This didn't work so well, because the pressure of the clamps on the glue up somehow resulted in fingers that were too small, so I had to hand sand the insides of the fingers to make the legs and top fit together. Talk about a pain...I like your way better.
