Our cabinets are custom built oak from before we got the place, but are not deep enough for both sections. April has nice deep kitchen cabinets. We want 36" depth on the lower cabinets and 24" on the uppers. They don't sell that it's gotta Be custom built.

@@SaltGrains_Fready 36” deep!!? The standard is pretty much based on a 24” deep cabinet. Maybe on an island but for a regular cabinet that would be insanely deep.

Great project and execution. I like the jigs for the slots and cutting repetitive curves with your router. You always have something I learn from. I built something similar 10 years ago when I was 60. Now at 70 I am really happy about not having to be down on my knees trying to wrestle pots out of cabinets. Thanks for sharing this project.

Dovetailed sides and a recessed bottom would make it look so much better. I think I would use under-mount slides instead of side mounted slides.

That's a cool shelf. Granted, Rev-a-shelf makes a similar rack, but this is DIY all the way, so I love it. I can see this approach being employed for other things as well such as vertical sheet pan and casserole pan storage. Nicely done. Thanks for sharing your efforts to upgrade your home and shop. It's what drew me in initially and keeps me coming back. Have a great "Hill Country" day, young lady.

A perfect addition to that would be to rip out the upper shelf and make drawers for there too. That way the stuff isn't hid in the back and you get more space out of the cabinet which is currently wasted above those new drawers. :)

My kitchen badly needs a makeover, so I've had a few of the new modern style drawer set-ups in mind for some time. However, what to do with the pots and pans has been a mental struggle design wise. Now, thanks to you April, I no longer have a mental block as to how the cabinet design will be for the kitchen remodel. Wonderful stuff you do. You're more than a woodworker, you're an artisan of wood. 👍😁

The problem of overly-full and hard-to-use kitchen cabinets is a difficult (and perpetual) organizational chore, and this video is even more full (of good ideas) than our kitchen island! Failure to de-clutter will, however, sabotage any organizer model, but what I like about this one is that it's flexible enough that if you can't immediately get away from 'the stacks', or slowly grow back into them, the pull-out-shelf aspect at least makes the stacks more accessible. Well done, April!

Suggest you take a piece of cutting board material that is thicker the the metal part on the drawer slide and a fix it to the drawer the is next to the door. I learned the hard way as when the drawer opens the metal edge with scratch the door. Added a piece of old cutting board and problem solved.

I'd love to see plans sometime for a whole-cabinet slide-out organizer. Like, open the doors and it looks normal, but then to access the whole interior, grab any edge of the door openings and pull, and the entire cabinet interior comes sliding out, face frame and all, on multiple, heavy duty, full-extension, bottom-mount slides (or have it roll out on floor casters hidden behind the toe kick). The cabinet or island would need to be secured to the floor to avoid tipping (if using the slides), and the counter top's front would need to not rely on the face frame. But this would make every cubic inch of the interior accessible and usable, and even more so with whatever system of shelves, dividers, pegboards, etc., are then mounted within on the 'drawer'.

Excellent video as always. Even with years of experience, I learn something new every video - the tape trick (I normally use double sided carpet tape - but like your trick!) and the router slot jig are just awesome. Oh, and with it being so hot now in Texas (at the time of my comment) it is odd seeing the colder weather gear - but this was quite the strange spring, so it makes sense. thanks again for sharing.
