The C-Sharp powered bookshelf speaker kit makes it easy to build your own self-contained stereo system. This compact speaker pair provides extremely flat response with much more low end than you would expect from a speaker this small. In addition, the C-Sharp's controlled dispersion delivers pinpoint imaging with a surprisingly wide soundstage. The built-in Lepai LP40PA plate amplifier makes the C-Sharp a true stand alone system allowing you to easily connect through Bluetooth or line-in to play audio directly from any phone, tablet, computer, or TV.
Dayton Audio's DSA135-8 5" Designer Series woofer is used for the midrange and low frequencies. With an aluminum cone and a powerful motor designed for low distortion, this woofer produces bass with authority while remaining smooth through the midrange frequencies. The high frequencies are handled by the ND25FW-4 1" soft dome tweeter, also from Dayton Audio. This waveguide-loaded tweeter controls high frequency dispersion for smooth off axis response and natural sound.
The Lepai LP40PA consists of two main parts, the plate amplifier and the control panel. Producing up to 2 x 20 watts RMS (2 x 40 watts peak) the LP40PA has enough power to drive the C-Sharp to impressive output levels for serious room filling sound. The 4-button control panel gives you the ability to select between Bluetooth and 3.5 mm inputs and adjust volume up and down. In addition, when in Bluetooth mode the control panel allows you to skip track forward and back, along with play and pause.
The solid MDF enclosure's 1/2" panels are all CNC milled to tight tolerances, ensuring easy construction. The surface mounted woofer is easy to install, while the flush mounted tweeter provides a sleek appearance. With all necessary cutouts for the drivers, ports, amp, control panel, and terminal cup this kit is extremely easy to assemble.

Pretty good for basic loudspeaker kit to start with 👍 One thing - where's the damping material to reduce internal resonances. I would make the front baffle min 3/4" (19mm) thick.
@DonnyTerek
@DonnyTerek 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Damping material is not needed for these speakers. It would be included in the design if it were necessary. Good idea on the thicker front baffle. Would have used it if I had a few pieces of 19mm thick board.
@pliedtka
@pliedtka 2 жыл бұрын
@@DonnyTerek Up to you to stuff it, but there are still reflection and standing waves which affect the midrange, although the port itself is a source of standing waves as well. For bass reflex I usually fill up enclosure behind the woofer leaving space around port, but these days I like passive rads - more flexibility in tuning, no lengthy ports with 90 deg elbows, no chuffing noises. The price is higher and depending on the passive rad cone material, suspension, it will leave some character. Still to me sounds cleaner in midbass application. For R&D and prototyping I use box with double baffle. The actual baffle is screwed to the front panel of the enclosure. The baffle is divided into tweeter and bass section, so if I want to try different drivers, but their diameter is different or I want to change tweeter position, I replace the whole panel. Saves money on material and space.

I built two passive sub cabinets with two 18 inch sub woofers each for my sound system. The guys at Parts Express were great for helping me pick out the Dayton Audio 18's and the size to build the cabinets plus sub port size. They were 1,000 watts each and I pushed them with 2,000 watt amps each. They went down to 45Hz although I cut them at about 55 or 60. They brought on the thunder.

Love the video. Any particular reason you use MDF, which you then have to laminate, rather than a good quality plywood? is it about price, finish, acoustic properties? Thanks
@DonnyTerek
@DonnyTerek Жыл бұрын
Thank you kindly. Personally I don't quite like working with plywood. MDF is much easier to work with and it is cheaper than high quality plywood. Adding to that MDF has better acoustic properties for speakers due to higher density.

If you have already won, I will give you several types for improvement (personal experience). Put silicone under all the screws. On the inner walls, you stick foam board exactly 5 mm thick. from the Bass speaker, make a curved roll of foam to the bass reflex. Screw the front plate even more (not just glue). You will be surprised by the result…

Personal I build tons of sub boxes most people like mdf for a ton if reasons its cheap its very dense its the best acoustically and a couple other reasons but I've never actually used a sealer I built a box for a friend and he's had it for a couple months through the humid summer and the winter and it looks and sounds great still only time will tell if it will keep sounding and holding up but so far I've had boxes that sat in a barn un painted un sealed for about a year now if u get them wet or expose them to too much moisture they will have issues I seen a prefab a guy had that was moldy or something but none of my boxes have had that happen

Hi! I use a two component MDF sealer that I get at my local paint supply store but I am not sure of the manufacturer. I've seen many people use this stuff too: geni.us/9YyKv . I use PVA D3 glue as I've heard this is the best PVA glue for veneering. Hope this helps!

@@DonnyTerek If you ever get a chance in one of your videos, could you show what the two part sealer is that you get from your local paint supplier? I see that MDF sealer you linked up sorta sounds like a watered down PVA glue. While it can work, yours looked like it had a hardener in it to help it cure after you applied it but still sandable as well.
@DonnyTerek
@DonnyTerek Жыл бұрын
@@tedjacobson7822 Sure! After a quick inspection on the local store's website the manufacturer of the sealer is Hesse-Lignal but I can't find more info on it. Will do some more questioning of the staff once I need some more for my next project. I believe it is a polyurethane sealer with a hardener.

You can easily and for cheap convert your own (or second hand)(or just any) bookshelf speakers to true stereo bluetooth. Get the awful sounding Roseland dual-split speaker take them apart. and link it to your speakers. for only 20 euro. The only thing you need to make is a new housing for the battery and the electronics. Pro's are 10 Meter apart, USB-C charge ports, SD card holder and line in (minijack) cons are: 10W and 4 to 8 ohms. But still good enough for an easy setup. I have converted my old Yamaha NS-BP 101 to bluetooth and it sound great! Loud enough for a small garden party.

Thank you! I do agree that the integrated amplifier is not powerful enough to show how these speakers can actually perform.

Wonderful build, but these deserve better than a Lapai amp. Anyone with some craftsmanship skills should consider c-notes over most pre-builts twice their price.

Thank you! I do agree that these need a better amp than this. They feel quite underpowered with this setup.

Great video... But I would have made the front black or Bordeaux red. Would be a great contrast to the natural oak housing
