I used a 8hp snowblower. Removed discharge chute and auger. Fabricated the front for two swivel wheels.Mounted ball on plate just in front of discharge chute. Can use multiple sized trailer balls.Obviously welded in supports to beef it up. Moves my loaded 5500 lb toy hauler. Low gear forward and low reverse work great., About 5 years ago for about $200 bucks . Used snowblower was $50..Shop time as as always.... lol. Good luck.

For a more versatile purpose you should have used a 1 7/8" ball. That way, it could be used with 1 7/8:, 2", & 2 5/16" trailer couplers. The trailer doesn't even have to clamp the ball to be used; just set onto the ball.

The winch motors have the brush timing so they have more speed and torque when pulling in the cable. I built similiar thing using a golf cart differential and used the winch motor to drive the pinion. I've also used the winch motor for a gate opener, and had to attach a bike sprocket to the drum and just used a smaller sprocket and bolted it with washers to the drum side. that worked. These are very noisy motors (gears), so I would not use them in the future.

@barefootgaragejax9252 By putting the smaller chainring on the axis, does the force/power remain the same or will it be lower? I have to use it to tow a trolley on the beach weighing 100 kg and I have to consider whether to design it with an electric motor or with one of these modified winches. Thanks 👋
@barefootgaragejax9252
@barefootgaragejax9252 Ай бұрын
@@Ernesto.66 for the beach, I think traction will be your main issue. Gear it low and make it heavy, as too much wheel speed (larger wheel sprocket) will spin the tires. Good luck!
@Ernesto.66

@barefootgaragejax9252 On several occasions I have mentally designed the electric wheel to take the small dinghy to the sea but I have never tried to make it. I have always been afraid that the wheel on the sand would slip. Then I saw your video and I was heartened but having to travel about 100 meters on the sand, the rotation of the winch I think is too slow. I think I have to use a different electric motor. To make the wheel spin slower but stronger, whatever engine I am going to use, should the ring gear of the motor or the ring gear of the wheel be larger? Thank you ❤️
@barefootgaragejax9252
@barefootgaragejax9252 Ай бұрын
@ for more speed, larger at the engine and smaller at the wheels is the ideal. For the beach, why not add dummy wheels and rubber tracks?

Really enjoyed your video and loved the safety boots. I have built a dolly with two ride on mower wheels being driven by similar motor. I am having trouble on slightly rough terrain and wondered what sort of weight you have at the hitch? I suspect my alloy boat is a bit light at the coupling.
@barefootgaragejax9252
@barefootgaragejax9252 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I would estimate it at 200-250 pounds. I can lift it by hand if I really need to. I found my setup likes to “pull” instead of “push”. When I need to push, I lift on the handle it puts all the weight on the drive wheels. I also initially had the ball height too high, and lowering it helped a lot. Tire chains are an option too!

I'm about to make one largely based on your design. However I have a concern on the parts list vs. the provided links. The small sprocket says 16T but the link is for one with 24T. The large sprocket says 30T but the link is for one with 48T. Changes to teeth on either will have a significant impact on speed. Don't need it to be too slow, nor too fast. So what was the actual sprocket teeth you ended up with?
@barefootgaragejax9252
@barefootgaragejax9252 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Wayne, glad this was helpful! I ended up using a 24/48 combo. I’ll update the links. Good luck! The 24 is the max you could go and I had to clearance the winch body. If I could have found a 16 or 20T with the right ID I would have used it.

The pillow blocks have about 3/4” adjustment and I was able to tension it that way. I also had some half links in case it needed it, but ended up not using them. It’s a very slow speed, so not a lot of chance for it to skip.
