Looks great. You can also flush cut the center divider and glue to one door this would allow you to make full width drawers.

Thanks for the video. I'm debating this idea or a stack of three trays for a narrow cupboard in the kitchen. Bottom mounted runners seem easier to fit. Nice finish from just using ply. 👍

Thank you very much for posting this, I've been looking for a way to make sliding drawers in my kitchen with simple tools, like a drill, not everyone is a master carpenter or has the money to buy all the fancy tools but we still want to make something that's good quality and will last. This is awesome, going to buy the pocket hole jig and since I have wood glue, I will use it for just the bottom...awesome video. Much appreciated, this will save me a lot of $$$$$

Could have saved even more money by NOT buying a pocket hole jig, as it's NOT needed for this application, in fact it would be stronger just screwing it from the back of the boards, pocket holes are only needed when you can't get to the back of the boards or the boards are too wide to screw threw...

I used 3/4 maple on the sides and 1/4 maple plywood on the bottom. I cut a 1/4” dado in the 3/4 maple to except the plywood. I then placed full extension drawer glides on the sides this way I can have more then one shelf per cabinet. In all I built 14 of them. I used glue and countersunk finishing screws on the 3/4 corners and the 1/4” plywood floats in the dado. There is no need for glue or screws. Finished with spray clear lacquer finish.

Probably a nice looking drawer, but his method is a little simpler since no router is needed for a dado. Also, if you used glue and countersunk finishing screws on the corners, how could there be no glue or screws used? Seems contradictory.

Only item most hobyist would not have is the Pocket hole Jig. Heck $40.00 can be used for all sort of projects and if you make 10 drawers it's worth it

I would’ve cut an entire piece of cabinet grade plywood for the bottom of the cabinet for the slide to mount on instead of 1x4s. That way you wouldn’t notice it when the drawers are fully extended

The sliders are designed to installed vertically, not flat. Watch them bend when loaded.

Brad nails and wood glue would work just fine and would cut time down tremendously. I think the screws are overkill for something so small but it is built well and looks good! Nice job!

The nails and glue will work their way loose over time. If the drawer is hardly used, nails and glue are fine, but if the drawer is used frequently this will hold up better.

And he can just screw it the regular way from behind the boards, making it a lot stronger, pocket holes are junk, ONLY good when you can't get at it from the back.

Good idea but I'm thinking some of the pocket hole connections are in wrong. On the first drawer the back has the holes and screws pointed to the corner which does not make a strong joint, the screw should be pointed towards the middle. Easy fix though, just flip the board 180* and rescrew.

Pocket holes on the inside of the drawer fronts since they will not be readily seen. You can use pocket hole plugs if you really want to have them covered, but not necessary.

I can't find the undermount slides you're using. Can you or someone direct me? The undermount slides I've seen online mount to the bottom of the shelf, but are attached to the side of the cabinet. I have a two door cabinet with no center wall, so can't mount a slide to a wall.

Why no glue? No significant Joinery either. Some small changes would go a long way to long-term reliability and reduce the need for such thick wood and avoid the complete reliance on the wood screws to hold it all together. Adding even a slight rabbet to the sides and base wouldn't increase strength and remove chance of seams opening up. Who doesn't hate it when things like pins poke outside the drawer from a gap at the base and side? Easy to cut the rabbet using a table saw on the strips prior to cutting their final length for the drarwer. Even better would be to create a tongue and groove for the base to fit into... it would allow for lighter less bulky material to be used and maximize drawer space. However there is something to be said for having a really solid drawer. Joinery could also hide the edges of the plywood not just for aesthetics put to protect them from moisture which will overtime cause the plywood to swell and layers split apart. I have become a big fan of joinery and how you can reduce and remove the need for metal hardware while creating a stronger final piece.

the slides that i used are called under mount. they are easier to install but thats the only reason i used them.

Thanks so much. We had to order L-shaped brackets that attached to the bottom of the cabinets rather than the sides. It only took three weeks to actually find them. I did find the undermount slides but I must have over-looked the ones that did not have to be mounted with brackets attached to the sides of the cabinets. Thanks again!

Nice video, but the products you linked to via amazon are not the proper type of drawer slides. Those ones are meant to be mounted on the side walls. The ones you used in your video and the ebay link are the proper ball-bearing type that get mounted underneath.

It's something you don't need in this project, in fact you are better off NOT using pocket holes because you can easily get to the back of the boards and just drive them 90 degrees, pocket hole are ONLY good when you can't get to the back of the boards or it's too wide of a board...

So I'm going to attempt this (not as professionally as you did. 2 Questions, Can you use 1 single full extension ball bearing under mount slide instead of the 2? And was the extra wood necessary to raise it? I've seen so many that just attached to the bottom of the cabinet. The mechanism alone would raise the drawer some. Screw Gun Table Saw Sander Pocket Hole Jig What did you expect you needed to build drawers: cardboard and a pair of scissors? Those are tools anyone can own, and should have, if you want to tackle something like making drawers. And, they will come in handy for other projects. You can go to Harbor Freight and get those things cheap, or spend a little more at Lowes/Home Depot for better version.

It appears he used side drawer slides and installed at 90 degress and placed on bottom of drawer box. That is not the design use for those type of drawer slides! I bet they cannot handle the intended design load in that application. He was supposed to use bottom drawer slides. They have a completely defferent design and are specific to handeling the entire wheight of the drawer box and its contents!

These slides came in a package from my local Southerland hardware store that was labeled under mount draw slides. The brand has been discontinued and they were collecting dust in my shop for a long time before I got around to this project. As others have mentioned side mount slides could work at a reduced capacity. My drawers only have 10 to 15 pounds in the so not a problem and they have been fine for a few years now.

I love the pull-out drawer idea but I never did understand why you put a pull-out drawer and then it a normal opening door on the cabinet. Why not just attached the pull-out drawer to the cabinet door and just make the cabinet door pull out door itself. To me that's just too much hardware to put slides on the shelving unit and hinges on the doors.

Making the door seperate will allow you to have 2 levels of shelves that pull out if you want a small on in the top to put stuff in you can do that if the door is not in the way. but mine was already on the hinges so i just opted to add the pull outs. its not perfect and you have a good idea. thanks for sharing

If you want people to subscribe, jettison the repetitions and cut your videos down to the bare essentials. You have a great idea here but it could have been told a lot quicker.
