DIY Rake Digger for the Kubota B2261 Compact Tractor Front Loader

The bucket at the front loader of a compact tractor is not able to penetrate well into dirt or soil with rocks, roots, wood and other stuff inside. The best way to get into that type of dirt and loosen it up is with the long tines of a Rake Digger (or root rake).
Since I have a lot of serious digging work to be done with that type of dirt, I decided to make my own root rake, the Rake Digger, with strong long tines designed to penetrate deep into the dirt to make it loose and take out large objects.
This video shows the making of a Rake Digger that fits onto the quick connect front loader of a Kubota B2261 4WD Compact Tractor.

I have a grapple on my tractor but this is a cool idea. I have made attachments for the tractor before and saw one of these quick attach plates and thought on making a root bucket. Awesome video.

What grade of steel did you use for the jaws of your decice? Simple and widely available A36 steel would not stand uup to the stresses you put your jaws through. Meaning...grade of steel and not thickness of the members.

The Rake Digger is made from steel parts that were used in old buildings that I bought from the scrap yard. So I expect it will be standard construction steel Fe360 (or St37) , which is perfect for making these type of implements. Be aware that when using special steels (like high strength steel, high carbon or other alloys) they do get their improved properties by cold deformation and/or specialised temperature treatments. When plasma cutting or welding these type of metals without after treatment they will loose most of their properties and can even make the construction much more brittle and weaker due to internal stresses inside the material. Special steels and metals need special attention to retrieve and keep the properties as intended.

Hi Jack. Thanks, the rake digger is a very nice addition to the rhino ripper and the bucket. Combining the three of them really make the job done. I will add some more videos on some serious digging. Just guessing I think the rhino ripper weighs about 70 kg, where I estimate the rake digger around 120 kg.
