Silca wax is very expensive. $32 bag. Gulf Wax from the grocery store is comparatively cheap $7 for 1lb. Would it make sense to use the cheaper food grade paraffin wax for the “dirty” bath and reserve the good silca wax for the clean bath? I Hate to waste expensive silca wax on essentially a cleaning effort. Personally I have been using Gulf Wax to wax my chain and Silca Super Secret to drip on between deep cleaning.

You get more wax with the canning wax too. Wax dissolves in a bit of benzene or lawnmower gas. The gas evaporates when dripped on a chain. But, I'm just an old geezer that bikes for exercise.

I just heat water to boil in microwave pour the water on the chain with dawn dish soap stir around rinse with hot tap water blow off with air compressor no contamination in my wax pot no need for 2 pots.

Yes, I think that would work great! I've been using the Gulf Wax for years, only switched to Silca last year for the additives.

Shimano says to *not* reuse their QuickLink. Can it actually be reused?

Most manufacturers advise against reusing the quick links - most likely for liability reasons (fair enough). Many people feel comfortable reusing their quick links at least 5-10 times, but that's a decision you'll have to make. Personally, I don't have a problem reusing my KMC links. Note, the Connex link does not have a limit on how often it can be removed and reused (but it's expensive!), so there's that.

Idk about shimano (never used it), but some quicklinks actually became too loose if get reused (some of kmc). But mainly it's ok to reuse (my expirience).
