Excellent video. Better than Haynes online video, particularly the steps on how to install the adjuster and front spring. I'll be installing rear brake lines and hoses eventually and I hope to find a video as good as this one.

Thanks! I would recommend not to damage the connectors. I believe it’s much better to use the old one if not damage. I changed all brakes line before but did not do a video on it. I end up used the old connector for most of them. Good luck!

I done jobs like this for years without a snap ring tool and lost many snap rings using a screwdriver to get them off, I highly recommend just going for broke and buy the snap ring tool it saves so much time and patience.

I agreed! I do have a set i believe it was $20 for a set. But, i kinda want to show other people use the screw driver with out going to the store and spend more money. I agreed with it’s good investment in tools make life little easier. Thank your for support and enjoy your holiday!

Do not remove the e-brake leaver from the cable . Just remove the old shoe , and reinstall the new one . You made the job unnecessarily harder .

To me would be easier to removed the horse shoe clip from leaver and old shoe. I do agree not necessarily remove it.

There is only one thing he isn’t doing that I have found to be a game changer. When he puts the break shoes in place to start hooking the springs up take a C CLAMP or wood clamp and hold the shoe in place.

First thanks for the video. One question. Do I have to buy a new drum if I change the shoes?
@TechTimeWithT
@TechTimeWithT 4 жыл бұрын
Not necessary, if your drum is not damage or lots of scratch - wear and tears. Normally, if your shoe is grinding to the medal yes you should change the drums. Good luck!!

my brake drum refuses to go back on... the wheel cylinder seems to be fully depressed the auto adjuster is all the way in... but for some reason that i can't fathom the brakes are still too far out to allow the drum back on...
@TechTimeWithT

Potential wrong parts. Return and purchase a different shoes set. That’s the only thing that’s not properly fit. Good luck!

@@TechTimeWithT i figured it out... the adjuster wasn't properly seated... it wasn't in the slot but sitting on the edge... pushing the shoes out just enough that the drum wouldn't fit on... thanks for taking the time to try to help... oh yeah... i see why you wore rubber gloves... i don't think my hands are ever going to get clean... lol

Iv been going about 2 months on bare metal back brakes as long as I barely tap the brakes my front will stop me but right now with inflation and trying to find a job that doesn't require getting vaccinated it's hard to come up with the money to replace them where I live they're like $60 at my part store , I'm afraid when I take off that drum I'm going to have to replace a lot more than just the brakes

To remove the drum he used a 12 mm socket so just get a pair of bolts with fine thread (8.125) milimetrical, same convenient lenght.

I replaced everything new wheel cylinder breaks spring and all cleaned everything and tried to put it back together but the spring are to loose (same exact springs) and if I turn the adjuster out to were they are tight they are spaced to the point the break would be on and the tire would not turn. Any idea?
@gregoryblair9810
@gregoryblair9810 3 жыл бұрын
usually that means you have it in the wrong holes on shoes. His pictures are just like my car, so pause video when he first takes drum off and try to see. Smaller spring goes at bottom, next longer BEHIND the spreader and longest one end is same hole as the behind spring and other end on adjuster lever.

Also, if you haven't pumped the system to bleed the fluid in the new cylinder, it won't be pushed out enough.
@mr.notsure9679

I figured it out, the shoes I put on had different holes for the springs to hook on I had them hooked in the wrong holes. When I was doing it I completely missed the correct holes didn't even see them until I was putting new shoes on. The ones I took off had three different holes I'm assuming for different models.

Thanks for replying, I was also frustrated everything was rusted bolts were stuck and breaking and by that point I just wanted to be done but the other side was nothing nowhere near as bad, I'm guessing the last person to do them didn't set them evenly or the adjuster quit working and caused on side to work harder than the other.
