Steeping your camp dinner is often a "wait and see" endeavor. With a cook-in cozy, made of reflectix, you can eliminate this uncertainty and keep your freezer bag food piping hot! Making your own will save money, and let you customize your gear for your own needs!
Reflectix, found in the insulation section of most home improvement stores, costs about $15 for a 16-inch by 25-foot roll. This is enough to make a dozen cozies, or to use for numerous other projects that will be useful in the woods (think sit pads, windscreens, or even hats). The material is effectively, bubble-wrap sandwiched between 2 layers of Mylar. It provides a great radiant heat barrier that's flexible and inexpensive.
You can use duct tape (or gorilla tape, as I've done) to assemble and reinforce your bag, and with a roll going for a few dollars, you could make these for less than a dollar a piece, versus the $10 that most websites charge for a simple cloth cook-in bag.
Using this gear, my Packit Gourmet Chicken and Dumplings take 10 minutes to cook in the coldest of evenings, just like the package indicates!
