i thought run was to center and span was twice that or wall to wall? thanks for any clarification

That might be simple change in construction language from area to area. At least where we live span is used for describing how far a member, rafter, beam, truss, joist, etc can carry between bearing points.

I’m trying to figure out what to do for a home I’m building for myself. Need a ridge board but can’t find one that’s 48 feet long. Can i create one long enough myself or does code require that splicing ridge boards are not allowed? I know splicing isn’t allowed for rafters according to ibc and irc 2021. Are scarfe joints allowed for ridge board? Or what do you recommend? Prefer using 2x4 or 2x6’s in Arkansas.

Are you able to provide a bearing point at the possible ridge splice? Are you installing rafter ties or ceiling joists? Or is this a vaulted ceiling?

Vaulted preferably. I wanted it as open as possible. But don’t know what to do to with the full 48 feet.

@@PreachardLoinlef Hello, for a full vault a structural beam with bearing posts at intermediate locations per the specs is most likely necessary to keep the roof from wanting to flatten like a pancake. If collar ties are installed then a ridge board can be installed in lieu of the beam provided proper connection to the wall top plate is completed. This wouldn’t be a full vault with the collar ties but would provide a method to install without intermediate posts. Check out IRC code r802.4 and r802.5 Hope that helps a little
