I have been using this rowing setup. I have a plywood board on the floor to prevent scoring a rug. I also placed a 1" pvc pipe beneath the plywood to provide an incline. I notice now that my heart rate goes up to about 125 bpm doing it. I can last 15 minutes and I am 61 years old. Lost a couple of lbs thus far. I try to do it twice a day because I can't do it 30 minutes straight. I watch an old movie during my workout.

Great video! I tried one myself back home - the only problem I might see is that by choosing a more resistant band for the feet you might have problems sliding/scratching yourself to the surface of the skateboard. It's a great DIY home trainer gadget for this winter. Thank you for the video

It's even better than the rowers i've seen, they don't have tension on the seat, just the handle (seat rolls free)
@davids35392 жыл бұрын
That is more accurate to actual rowing, but yeah, as an exercise it's certainly better to focus more tension on your lower body. I guess it's the same effect as some rowers having an incline.

I am buying a 2nd set of the resistance bands. I could be mistaken, but I think they were tougher to pull when I first started. I will use 2 reds and 2 black bands
@inhibited44 Жыл бұрын
If I use one red band, I can pull the handle to my chest easy. If I use two red bands, it's a struggle to pull it the handle to my waist.

My skateboard is going back and forth on a 4 ft sheet of plywood, so I don't ruin the basement rug. I wasn't getting a sufficient workout on it, so I inserted 1" pvc pipe below the end of the plywood closest to my feet. The sheet is now inclined up towards the post. Now my heart rate goes up to 120 bpm quickly and it's a difficult workout and I can only do it for a few minutes.

I used blue band for skate board and a orange for my upper body. I feel like this going to be a game changer to help me get stronger and lose more weight. Thanks for coming up with this and saving us money

Only one slight flaw,,, the effort needed is not steady throughout the stroke,,, ie there is a small load at start and a large load at end,, a good row machine gives a constant drag....Nevertheless, good for a quick fix...

@Emmanuel Ramos if you use thicker bands you will have more resistance in the beginning but even more towards the end. If one is serious about rowing, he/she will get the concept 2 (or a waterrower) nut if you are stuck at home for the quarantine/lockdown this is a great way to stay fit for under 100€!!!

For those that build this, if you have a fitbit charge 5 it will connect by bluetooth to your fitbit app on an iphone. In short, with the watch on, you can watch tv and row all the time monitoring that fitbit app telling you via bluetooth what your heartrate is. I can row now 7 minutes at 110 beats a min twice. I get up after 7 minutes and my legs are sore and I am tired. Am working up to 20 minutes and I am 61 years old.

I was looking at resistance curves on actual rowers. These bands don't respond the same way, so the curve must be different . Max resistance is at the final pull with the arms

Yes it certainly isn't perfectly in line with a rower, but it was a fun thing to do and it can "sorta" be used in place of a rower. It will never truly match the feel of being on a rowing machine!

Your body doesn't know if the resistance is coming from a $$$ rowing machine or super affordable resistance bands. With proper form you can have a killer workout. I'm using the same technique but instead of attaching the band to the board i wrap it around my lower back for much greater resistance. I believe with a set of resistance bands you can exercise or replicate any gym based exercise, only our mind is the only limitation to be creative.

@roqueluis52 жыл бұрын
@@prxperformance You have a skateboard on dumbbells and some flimsy resistance bands, and you want to talk about "quality"? 🤣 Look let's just agree that this set up is neither safe or cost effective. Lumber is expensive right now, but I'm sure people can build a resistance rower for less than $40. If you throw throw in cement as counter weight, I say a rower for less than $80. A better tile would have been "How to make a rower with things you have at home". But everyone is just better off buying a cheap second hand rower from Facebook. It will be safer and better quality.
