great mods, i STILL use my issue PLCE OD bergan now and then, and find it is usually too big. there is actually a built in fix rather than moving the straps however. if you look either side of the small rear pouch - you will see two loops, you can run the straps down through thesee first then up to the bergan lid, this gives you the ability to compact the size considerably. for peole who dont want to sew, simply adding webbing straps to the bottom of the bergan through one of the many available hoops will allow you to do the same. which is what i did. fantastic video however, and love what you have done with this

Well explained sir, thank you. I’m just getting into sewing so this could be a great project. I’ve got one of these Bergens lying around somewhere. It’s basically a karrimor sf 45 after we’re done

nice video, just for info though the two canvas loops next to the external fixed poncho pouch are what you are supposed to thread the lid straps through first, then they sort of double back on themselves and clip into the lid - this allows the bergen to be compressed when not full

Hello Mat, Profabrics - Uk based (Anglesey) are good, but can be a bit pricey compared to Ebay, but you know exactly what you are getting and it is top spec normally.

Great stuff, have got any links to where I could get the stretchy mesh that's used on packs also would you attempt changing the shoulder straps?
@greencraft4783
@greencraft4783 7 жыл бұрын
Its the same mesh they use on webbing assault vests. I got it from Kev at Endicotts Army Surplus (speak to him nicely - he may hay some spare). Its not elasticated - I threaded bungee cord through it.

General question, when starting out and building up gear how do you work out the size of bag required ? Don’t want to buy a 140ltr pack when a 40ltr would be adequate.
@greencraft4783
@greencraft4783 4 жыл бұрын
I started off with a 70ltr pack, my theory being you can make a big pack smaller, but you can't make a small pack bigger! That was in 1983 and I think that is still as true
@AlanAlanAlanDave
@AlanAlanAlanDave 4 жыл бұрын
Greencraft I thought the same thing and, am looking for a olive green long back Bergen. However hunting down a good price used olive green Bergen Isn’t easy so did start to think of simply getting a 70L or 100L dry bag and either adding a harness (not making holes in the bag) or get one like a rucksack.
@greencraft4783

Try Endicotts surplus (Kev did have some) or look for a berghaus Cyclops Roc on eBay, they come up from time to time.
@AlanAlanAlanDave
@AlanAlanAlanDave 4 жыл бұрын
Greencraft I looked at Endicotts but out of stock. I did find a used one at military mart without rocket pockets for £45. I’ll Also look for the cyclops Roc as I’ve never heard or come across that one. Thanks.

Could these modifications work with the Berghaus Cyclops ROC? or Is the Cyclops Crusader 90L Bergen closer in design?
@greencraft4783
@greencraft4783 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Alan, the Crusader is closer in design. The Cyclops Vulcan is a good one to modify, as I have been told the frame is removeable , which they are not on the ROC or Crusader

@greencraft4783
@greencraft4783 4 жыл бұрын
@@AlanAlanAlanDave Yes, it was billed as 100ltr, 80 plus x2 10 ltr side pockets. Good pack, but the frame is riveted in place. The Vulcan is based on the same pack, but has a zip opening at the bottom. Recently I was told the frame is removable, which make the alterations so much easier.
