What about the sharpeners that come with knife sets. The long metal rod type thingy? Are they any good for knives and scissors?
@SharpeningSuppliesАй бұрын
They're handy for quick touch-ups to the edge. Often they're a little more convenient than getting out your bench stones but they might be a little less accurate, give a little less of a refined edge. But if that's what you've got, it will make your knives and scissors sharper.

one thing to think about - people who have bench sharpeners and pocket stones dont need a video to tell them how to sharpen. they will watch maybe out of curiosity or learn some technique but the video is presented as if it's introducing information to someone who doesn't know how to sharpen their scissors at all. which is great but then you jump straight to solutions that doesn't match the intended audience. the video would likely perform much better if you targeted those to get a foot in the door and sharpen without these tools. and if not possible, why? explain how if you can find ANY results. I know of course you can sharpen without these but my point is meet the intended consumer with their needs and where they are on the journey. this just skips over without a thought given.

For me, scissors just always get overlooked. Fortunately, general purpose scissors are pretty easy to sharpen.

Scissors are a pain to get sharp and i use the same technique as the video. Knives of any steel type no problems.

You forgot to mention that the cutting edge/blade is curved not straight and needs angle adjustment while sharpening, by raising slitghtly the dominant hand and pressing down on the edge with the other hand. If someone sharpens the way you showed, they will never get to midle&tip area. The tip will never touch the stone because of the curved bevel.

Why sharpen they are only a buck at Harbor freight
@SharpeningSuppliesАй бұрын
Here's a few reasons off the top of my head: not all scissors are cheap scissors from Harbor Freight, throwing away blunt scissors is wasteful, some people want the skills to be able to maintain the tools they own and use.

@DMTsharp the manufacturer of these stones recommends water. You can use them dry, but water is perfectly fine.
