Really nice job on that sewing table. I'm not at all handy with tools so I asked my husband to help me build a table like yours... but he started laughing! However, his laughing stopped (and mine started) when he saw that I was purchasing an expensive sewing table with one of our credit cards. "Any port in a storm."

I made a table similar to this a few years back, slightly different though. I used the 4 cube shelves on either end as I wanted to sit in the middle and needed leg room. My table is 4'x8' and the top is MDF with a white melamine sheet glued onto it, I use mine for dyeing my silk scarves and storage. Thinking on it I think it may be time for me to do some deep cleaning lol.

I haven't access to woodworking space so my table will have to be made in situ in the bedroom which is small! Youv'e given me many good ideas though and can't wait until Ikea is open again so I can go and buy my stuff! Thankyou for this video. You worked very hard and it was good to see hubby helping. I'd need a table a bit smaller than yours otherwise I won't be able to get into the room! So I am pondering what to use as the table top. Worktops side by side would be too big but I am thinking there are ways around that.
@LydiaNaomi3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I am so glad that you enjoyed! There are countertops that are 30 wide. That could work really well, i think you can even get them at IKEA too! Lots of options! I put a bunch of other tutorials in the description. You might find they suit your needs better :)

I’ve been thinking about a 4’ x 8’ table and had almost given up on the idea of making it non-permanent. Your base is excellent. You don’t have the Kallax units doing much beyond support which is smart. That frame at the base is providing the structure. Now I have more sketching (and calculating!) to do. Thanks for a genuine, honest video.

Besides the safety glasses or goggles, you should also be wearing at least an N95 type mask if not a respirator mask so that you don’t breathe in saw dust especially from things like plywood as there are a lot of glues and other stuff used in the manufacturing of plywood.

What are the total dimensions of your sewing table and the opening in the middle to hold fabric rolls? The area for each Kallax with edging and the total measurement of the base of the table. Did you add the small square wood to install casters to ensure the nails didn’t go through to the base? Do you believe the table top can hold sewing machines/etc. without being secured to the Kallax units? Thank you for answering my questions.
@LydiaNaomi3 жыл бұрын
Base Frame: Base Plywood Width 38.125" Length 62 min with 1.5" thick wood frame on top. 3" in the middle The area for the kallax shelves was about an 1/8" to a 1/4" wider than the kallax shelf width and for the new kallax it had just over an inch extra on one end. It was a bit higgledy piggledy. Yes the squares of wood were to keep the screws for the casters from going through the base. Since I had the carpet stay on top, the weight of the table top keeps it in place and I have put all manner of things on this table even (carefully) getting on it myself. I made the frame and the detachable table top so that it was easy to disassemble and move if needed and switch out the old kallax shelf for a new one that matches the other new one i have! There are a few links in the description of easier but less portable ways of

I agree...KALLAX shelves aren’t hard to put together. If I can do it, anyone who isn’t scattered and throwing a tantrum can also do it! (SORRY, NARCISSISTS. 🤷🏻♀️) Just put on some music that brings your mind in an open & patient space, and go for it! 👍 Hydrate & have something to eat beforehand, so you don’t use being hangry as an excuse. And go to the bathroom, too. And wear something comfy.

What are the dimensions of this table?
@LydiaNaomi3 жыл бұрын
The height is 37" from the ground (original design was to be 36" cause I'm only 5'4" but it still works great), I use a stool if I need to reach far across. The table top is 52" by 72" (two countertops together). I don't even know the base dimensions just that its a bit wider than the Kallax shelves together for the frame. You really don't have to make a frame like I did, I just like how easily it can disassemble! I've linked a few more basic tutorials in my description as well!
