Nice build looks absolutely lovely. To cut the circle you can try use router to start from the back for about 5mm depth then finish cutting with the jig saw on outside router grove. And on the end install flash trim with bearing in router and finish it of using inside grove wall as a guide for bearing.
@CasualDIY
@CasualDIY 2 жыл бұрын
Yes thats a good idea and next time I think I'll try just that. Much safer, quicker and easier

Hi there and beautiful woodworking. My question for you is, how thick of a board is being used?
@CasualDIY

For the legs it's 2.5cm. For the top its two layers of 1.5cm so 3cm total

Great video, and love the new workshop layout. It looks like you have more space than your UK garage space.

Thanks, yes much more space. The garage in UK was 13m2 and this one is 21m2 plus I got another room about 9m2 that I will use for resin work😁

Hi Tom lovely table. A tip to stop tear out of the grain is to use some kind of masking tape on the vulnerable side of the table. And also if you use the router to remove only half the thickness of the table top and then use a jigsaw to finish leaving a small amount of material and then use a flush bit on your router to finish the job this will reduce the amount of material you would have to remove by use only the router
@CasualDIY
@CasualDIY 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you. Yes I think that is the way to go forward with the jigsaw👍

Looks good! Glad to see you back doing projects! Hope you don’t get any problems in the future but using plywood as a base for the chevron pattern would be safer... the ash base might move and crack... the you could do a segmented ring to create the solid wood chamfered rim
@CasualDIY
@CasualDIY 2 жыл бұрын
Well I convinced myself that I shouldn't have any issues. The wood was 5% moisture, the slats are relatively small with alternating grain so they should counteract their movement. The legs are attached in a way to allow for movement and the varnish should give a good seal. But time will tell if it will break. But you can be assured that if it does I will report on it 👍

I've seen a guy cut a groove with a router, he then cuts in the groove (the outer edge) with a jigsaw (a bandsaw would work) then, using the original router groove, he uses a flush trim bit to finish the cut.

What are the wood prices like over there? Are you able to get more for you money?
@CasualDIY
@CasualDIY 2 жыл бұрын
In relative terms I would be able to get more in the UK form my old wage. The price of wood here and in the UK is more or less the same but the wages in the UK are higher... unless you got a friend working in a timber yard you will have to pay a fortune for ply or wood of any sort. Hence most of my workshop projects like new benches and cabinets are on hold, I'm waiting for the prices to come down.
@lawman1965

@@CasualDIY same here. I'm retired and new to woodworking. I went up to Cheshire yesterday for Birch Ply and the cost was ridiculous!
