They make hinges that allow the door to open outside the edge of the cabinet; I *think*, for this exact purpose/reason: rollout shelves. My dad did the same thing to a pantry cabinet; grumbled up and down, did some research, found them and saved rebuilding mom’s pantry. Although for shop furniture your solution is much quicker and likely less money, just wanted you to know they exist.

@Karen, do you happen to have a link or maybe name for these hinges? I recently did a kitchen island for us and I completely overlooked this. I caught the problem much later in the project and really shook me lol. I'd love to have an alternative solution besides a quick and dirty shim solution. Although it worked for me and it's for me and my family, if the opportunity arises to build one for a customer, I'd definitely consider this type of hinge. Thanks in advance

I just bought some blades and was thinking of making a blade storage cabinet but this makes a lot more sense. I have a bunch of wood waiting for a project (some call them 'scraps'). Thanks for the ideas. Remember what happens in the shop (mistakes?) stays in the shop.

I knew exactly what the problem was just by your thumbnail lol 😂. I made a kitchen island, for ourselves, and once everything was installed, painted and ready to be assembled and in place…. disaster struck 😭. I was absolutely shook and just kept staring at it and wondering "how could I have missed this? How did I overlook this?" 😂. You definitely learn from your mistakes. I'm just glad it happened to me personally vs a client. Although I definitely maybe would've caught it before delivery/install day. My solution was the same idea you did. My drawers were much bigger and wider tho. So I had to completely break apart, literally break apart, the drawers. I even had a huge cabinet roll out one that I designed to put pots/pans in with a small upper level for the tops. It worked out at the end but my shims are much more visible as I installed hinge lights that turn on automatically when the doors are opened. They just clip on to the already installed euro door hinges. They're kinda bulky, hence why my shims are much more visible to allow for the big cabinet drawer NOT to catch/stop on them. Loved seeing you mess up, in a good way 🤣🤣, the same way we regular ppl do too. Thanks for sharing!

I definitely need to build this. I rarely change my blades because the stuff is scattered all over. I'm constantly looking for my fingerboards and such. I also just happen to have 4 sheets of 3/4 sitting unused. 🙃

To drill at the angle, first drill a straight hole into the side of a 2-by, then run that through the table saw to cut the angle you want. Now you have a nice guide block.

This project looks good. The only thing I would do differently is putting a lipped edge on the pullouts, all the way around and at least 1 inch in height. (In your case, 1 inch height + 3/4 shelf = 1 3/4 total)' This way, stuff won't be falling off the shelf. At some point, you'll be adding more stuff to the cabinet and things will start to fall off. Has this happened to me? Absolutely!

Nice but I think the saw blades are a bit exposed to damage. If you could secure them better I think it would be better. If they fall off the concrete floor could damage them.
