I'd really love to see a complete updated video series from you showing the entire prepping process before the staining. You get such great results and I think what happens before the color goes on is why that is! At least in part! Killer job brother. Peace & Love

If you were wanting to do this with red would you use different hues of red or would you dilute a single colour?

This is also one of my favourite colour schemes too... Always done to perfection by PRS. I have a Telecaster project idea that is along the same lines, only I'm simply going for a sunburst (Lagoonburst) finish, slightly darker (cobalt) blend of blues, but faded-out to the centre of the body. The rear/sides will be finished in translucent electric/cobalt blue, which I will continue up the rear of the neck/headstock, with the top of the headstock natural maple (Fender Compound neck - 'Deluxe' or 'Ultra'). BUt of course KZbin somehow predicted that... And pointed me to this video. Thumbs-up for a great job BigD.

I've been using tru-oil to seal my sides for the faux binding, and it works amazing. Especially with the Angela's dye's. If any dye gets on the tru-oiled areas, it can easily be taken off with 0000 fine steel wool with almost all traces of color being easily removed. I don't even tape off properly anymore when I stain because of it. Not really necessary if you're careful around the edges.
@NYANPASS-CHEN Жыл бұрын
Hello, did you use the Angela's leather dye for your guitar? I'm just unsure if that's suitable for wood.
@maxwellcohen2917 Жыл бұрын
@@NYANPASS-CHEN it's perfect for wood. It's just an alcohol based dye. Some people prefer water based dyes, but I've come to prefer the alcohol based dyes. They dry quick as hell too. If you use a wipe on finish some of the dye may wipe away but if you let it dry for about a week, you shouldn't have that much of an issue with that. I've done 2 guitars with Angela's leather dye and have no complaints. Just practice on some scrap wood first

Thanks for such a good educational video. Can you please write the names of the dyes you reccomend? And will these be good for an acoustic instrument like a harp or could they degrade the vibrations of the sound board? I’m building a harp and would love to dye with shades of blue, like and ocean and sky.

Do you have links to all of the dyes you used? I'm about to stain a guitar in the exact color scheme that you have. Also, do you use the leather, suede, or rit dyes? Thank you! ☺️

Derek that was a fantastic video and the best by far I’ve seen on doing a fade. One question you said on video that you were sanding back using 600 but when you switched to the voiceover you said it was 320, which was the correct grit for removing the colour off the top?
@mvyper2 жыл бұрын
600. He sanded the bare wood to 320, and took some color away with 600 after the first staining session.
