Ok, the desk is pretty cool. However, I'm very intrigued by the posters on the wall. Especially the B-17. I'm a huge fan of WWII aircraft. Where did you get those? Again, pretty cool desk. I'm actually getting ready to upgrade my office soon (after I set up my new shop). Hopefully I'll make videos of my build. Thank you for sharing yours.

Glad you liked it! Being a fan of vintage aircraft myself, I actually designed that artwork myself with some old drawings and a lot of photoshop! I'm glad you noticed it

Awesome build.

Nice work! Just did the same but didn't go as fancy. I just did two layers of 3/4 Baltic birch laminated together. No wireless charger.

Sounds pretty sturdy still... as long as it works and you like it!

Looks pretty good. How do you like the wireless charger? The ones I checked out so far were slow, and felt like my phone became warmer compared to just a regular USB (not fast) charging...
@EveningWoodworker Жыл бұрын
The charger warms up a bit, but this one can go through the thickest material I've seen. The phone doesn't warm up too much.

That finish turned out nice. Walnut is always a good choice. Just wish it wasn't so pricey these days.
@EveningWoodworker3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yeah I hear you about the price. Keep your eyes on Craigslist or local people getting rid of old lumber stacks
@CrusoeDesignCo Жыл бұрын
Did you say how big it is? That’s a huge piece of walnut. That’d probably run around $500 here in Canada right now just for the raw wood. Maybe more.

It's about 60" x 24". It was definitely a steal!

@@EveningWoodworker very nice! I’ve always enjoyed looking at all types of schematics and cutaway views. I find them fascinating.

Perfect timing as I'm currently working on a similar project! How did you account for wood movement when mounting the top to the base?
@EveningWoodworker3 жыл бұрын
The Uplift base wisely has slots for the mounting holes. So you can just put the screws in the middle of the slot and you should have movement in both directions.

Nice! Been meaning to make one of these. But now you've got me thinking of adding the wireless charger as well... 🤔

It's pretty convenient and just disappears when you're not using it.

Just priced those lifts. I'm more of a salvage yard kind of guy. Cheap, cheap. Anyone got suggestions for mechanisms that lend themselves to adaptation for this purpose?
@EveningWoodworker3 жыл бұрын
I've seen a couple people on YT build their own from scratch and one of the big challenges I would think is getting the timing right between the two motors so it doesn't bind.

What are the airplane drawings behind your desk?
@EveningWoodworker3 жыл бұрын
Those are prints I made in photoshop using some of of the old drawings for a B-17, DC-3, and one of the Wright Brothers patent applications.

Such a beautiful desk top, I would not permit drill such a big hole for the wireless charger! get a mobile wireless charger instead!
@EveningWoodworker3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I was hesitant to do anything to that top, but I'm putting lots of screws into the bottom so it didn't seem too bad... not visible unless you lay on the ground!

anyone have any idea how much to charge for something like this?
@EveningWoodworker2 жыл бұрын
Materials alone cost about $1.2K so add your labor hours in after that. I think for a custom one, you could easily charge $2-3K depending on the slab you use.
