I just love your casual, “devil may care” attitude! After all, we are just sewing!!! You make it seem so much fun. Inspired me to dust off the Husqvarna and get started! Thanks a million........

I've sewn for years - from simple things to bridal attire - but I came across your tutorial by accident and am so glad I did! I enjoyed every moment of your video and what a joy you are to listen to - well done indeed!

OMG... I AM A FANGIRL... never been a fan girl... but you crack me up.. you inspire me and I have owned a sewing machine for ten years I have never used instead I keep it at my moms and when I need something sewn.... "hey mom wanna show me how to use my sewing machine?" It turns out it is easier for her to sew it, rather than teach the manipulative brat that brought the sewing machine there on purpose.....? I brought my s3wing machine home tonight... and looking up how to use it in between your videos. Love you keep it up.

Hello, Darlene, I think you are the cutest on the block. Thank you for your tutorial. I loved it, and I look forward to another easy teaching. I wouldn't hem it either! From Homestead Florida! Good job.

Darlene this is so cute, I have never thought of anything like that, being a full figure lady it is always hard finding dresses. I gave my sewing machine to my bff because I wasn't sewing any more but after seeing this I think am going to get it back and try this. Will let you know. Thanks

OMG Darlene~I FINALLY get the concept. Ok, so this is sort of like how we assemble our tote bags with liners!! The bag (being the skirt) inside out, with the liner (being the shirt) right side out! I GOT IT I GOT IT!! You have taught me SO much!! Hey, I looked up Family Dollar in your city, and if they are like Indiana, they just got some of the nicest T-shirts in spring colors, like bright neons, etc. And are 25% off right now. Thank you for making this, I'm going to give this a try ASAP!!

You could also just place the skirt under the hem of the t-shirt and top stitch all around. But you have to gather up the skirt so you don't sew over the fabric on the other side. Much easier if the skirt is shorter. But yes, the way I did it is like the tote bag and lining!
@darlene.michaud

Or sort of like the tote and lining. I can't even remember exactly how I did the dress. I know I attached the original hem back to the t-shirt. I think. lol You don't have to do that part. You could treat it just like the tote and lining and that will work.

I think we're sisters from diff mothers !!! I like how you think. I would have put the seam in the back, I made a skirt from knit jersey, and an elastic waist. Long shirt covers the waist. DID hem bottom. Love it !! Love the tshirt idea !!!

Just found you today! Yay! Love to upcycle clothing! It's my favorite kind of sewing! There didn't use to be anyone doing upcycles, now there are a few, but I can tell you are going to be my favorite! BTW I was thinking you could use a non stretch fabric, for the skirt, if you gathered it.

I have never deliberately gone to KZbin to seek a tutorial. I accidentally found you and this episode. The dress and scarf look great. Most of all I love your attitude. You may have liberated me. I am my own harsh critic, careful cutter and pinner. Thank you so much. I do wonder why you did not sew print directly to top of shirt?

You make sewing look so easy. I have a great machine and it sits on a table not being used because I have no idea what to make. I can hem and make pillows but that is as far as it goes.

I've done something very similar for my very first sewing project. I love your idea but the shirt still looks blah and somewhat masculine. What I did with mine I cut the necklace line and hemmed it making it more open, and I made a detail on the sleeves to look more girlish.

Could you show us how you made the scarf, necklace?
@darlene.michaud
@darlene.michaud 7 жыл бұрын
Not sure if I'll get around to showing it, but it's really simple. I just sewed a strip of fabric end to end to make a circle. Then I cut little strips as ties. Then I bunched up the circle of fabric and tied it in several places with the strips. I'll try to show it in my next Q&A.

I got a kick out of it when you said that your stitches were crooked but who cares because no one is going to see it. I was the youngest of 8 children and I believe if you looked in the dictionary under "poor" a picture of my family would have been there. So, because there was little money we got most of our clothing at a thrift store. Sometimes those clothes were not in the best of condition or a white thread had been used to hem a black dress, a hole had been patched with material that was not a very good match with the rest of the dress, the shoes were very scuffed up, etc. I would whine to Mom about having to wear such things to school and her standard answer was, "no one is going to jerk you up and look at that hem." I don't believe I have ever heard anyone other than my mother say that. Soooooo, I bet you no one is going to jerk you up and find that crooked seam. I just remembered that another answer she would give me was, "It'll never be seen on a galloping horse." BTW, I love watching the inexpert approach you take to doing all of your projects because it makes me think maybe I could try something like that. Your videos make me smile.
